I worked at Fairfax Digital as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

I really can't think of any pros, except that due to their size and their reach they make a good resume stuffer.

    Cons

Just what the title says. They are all about the crisis. And they direct everyone to make ridiculous projections "for motivation", and then harass them when they don't meet the false projections. Pretty stone-age management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Fairfax Digital as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    1) Very strong brand name - Fairfax Digital is very well regarded
    2) Great location - right by the water!

    Cons

    1) Very Very Low pay NO Commission base salary never increases and may even decrease
    2) Way too much Micro-management 30-40 employees will report to

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should never be more than 6-8 people reporting into one manager (10 people maximum), do not lie to people to get them on board etc.

    Negative Outlook

You work with lots of different people, and at times there seems to be no consistency in approach or methods.

Online business with challenging print parent

    I worked at Fairfax Digital

    Pros

Nice location and physical space (Sydney). FD represents such a wide variety of sites and, therefore, has the potential to offer to a diverse professional experience.

    Cons

Realistically speaking, it can be very challenging to work with a larger parent business that has not fully embraced (and can be threatened by) even their own online venture. There is not much meaningful collaboration or alignment between the print and online businesses and there is also very limited opportunity for advancement outside of Sydney.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value good people above (almost) all else. Too many good talent leave because they see no viable options for professional development.
