    I worked at Fairfield University

    Pros

Colleagues, advisors, and supervisors are focused and driven on helping each other succeed. Mentor relationships between students and faculty are prominent. Great environment to learn. Travel compensations for attending conferences are especially helpful.

    Cons

The small size of the university limits the amount of professionals in your field. Lack of diversity within the student body. Small private university, certain projects do not receive an abundant amount of funding.

I worked at Fairfield University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Extremely generous amount of paid time off.
The best health plan I ever had.
    Fantastic tuition remission program.
    Super friendly staff.
Gorgeous campus. The lawn is always picture perfect.
    Healthy work life balance.
University tries hard to offer a solid education to the students.
Great place to work, get a graduate degree and still have a life.

    Cons

Salary so low, the number is barely on the chart. There is a good chance that the students you are serving will start off with a higher salary than what the university is paying you.
Not for type A personalities, you will become frustrated every day.
Change moves at a snail's pace.
University is slow to lay off unqualified employees. Many of these employees get ingrained into the system and become Fairfield University employees for life. These lifers occupy seats which could be occupied by more qualified staff. It is common to find people who have been working for the university for 10,20,30+ years. Sadly many of the lifers have made little to no attempt to move up in their careers. Even with the abundance of tuition remission at their disposal.
Complacency has gotten the best of many employees. These employees would not last a day in the corporate sector.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If was frustrating to see talented coworkers leave for greener pastures. The university would attract and retain high quality employees if the salaries were in line with the average. Spend the money on a management consulting firm as positive changes could easily be made.

I have been working at Fairfield University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are several really dedicated faculty who love students and will do anything for them.

    Cons

There are some distorted people who care more about their personal agenda than students or the school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pinpoint the faculty who really care about the students and motivate them to become more involved with faculty leadership.

I worked at Fairfield University as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

First-class, professional environment with all the latest library and teaching technology - including a super teaching lab/classroom. Professional and supportive librarians and English Dept. faculty who provided feedback and mentoring. Fairly flexible scheduling options for teaching classes. This is an excellent experience for a LIS student.

    Cons

    This semester-long internship is unpaid.

I have been working at Fairfield University full-time

    Pros

This is a very special place to work. Great students, wonderful colleagues, fantastic benefits.

    Cons

It would be great if they would pay us more! But you can't have everything in life. This place is worth the cut in salary for all the benefits and the beautiful campus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reconsider how you pay people, both faculty and staff. Administrative salaries are way out of whack.
