    Good for graduate assistants

    Graduate Assistant (Current Employee)
    Madison, NJ

ProsFairly easy way to help pay for graduate school. Easy office culture, you get to make your own hours as long as you get the requirement. My boss was very flexible.

ConsOnly offers to pay for 6 credits when they require you to take 9 credits to be full-time. Also don't allow you to have a scholarship to pay for the 3 credits out of pocket.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive grad assistants more credits or more stipend. Most including myself go above and beyond job description because we are short on people.

    5 years in...

    Assistant Professor (Current Employee)
    Madison, NJ

ProsBeautiful campus, lots of great coworkers, nice students
    403b plan is generous
Opportunity to make an impact-- a lot of change is coming (new programs, hybrid classes) and people can shape these changes

ConsLower pay than comparable schools. Lacks good databases for research.
College of business has had high turnover at top. Some tenured profs have no incentive to work as part of a team

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to get better mgmt at top--bring in some new blood
Make some alliances with Drew and St E's

    Disappointing

    Accountant (Current Employee)
    Teaneck, NJ

ProsGenerous vacation days, academic setting, diverse amiable staff, tuition reimbursement, generous retirement match after two years service

ConsNo merit pay increases, few to no advancement opportunities, low tech out dated office equipment and procedures, entrenched management that resist changing to meet present day realities. Employee healthcare contribution increases every year without salary increases.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of requesting employees across the board to do more with less and providing low/no university wide salary increases, implement smarter streamlined processes and provide merit pay increases to hardworking, respected staff and faculty members.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Some good experiences with the university community at times.

    Public Safety Officer (Current Employee)
    Madison, NJ

ProsGreat tuition benefits for self, spouse and dependents if they wish to study at a so-so university. Use of the fitness center and library is beneficial. Aiding students and others in need of service may be a good job duty. When the university is closed, the work load is less.

ConsFor public safety officers, it is a boring position opening and closing university buildings. Most shifts require sitting in a security guard booth. There are ten hours shifts. And working a midnight shift is harmful to an employees' health. Shift workers lose sleep and have loss of time with family. it is a cat and mouse game all school year chasing underage students drinking alcohol and at times using illegal drugs. Vandalism and auto accident reports are common offenses at the university.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the 50% turnover rate. Create a career path so workers value their jobs. The new provost: Peter Woolley stated for workers to deal with the frustrations of the job which is not a healthy attitude for workers. Retraining new workers is high expense for the university.
