I have been working at Fairleigh Dickinson University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Close knit group of people working for the good of the students. Most departments are willing to help each other out. Mid level employees are great - but as many cases in higher ed, senior level management has been here for 30 years and is rather grandfathered in and unwilling to consider change.

    Cons

Sometimes lack of communications causes stress. Office culture is usually quite casual which can breed confusion as to organizational cultural norms. Few opportunities for professional growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

FDU is a great place with great people. I'd really encourage management to critically evaluate office/department heads to get a feel for how their staffs are really feeling. I've learned that most of the time, people stay here out of allegiance to the FDU community and to the students they work with - NOT for their supervisors.

I have been working at Fairleigh Dickinson University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fairly easy way to help pay for graduate school. Easy office culture, you get to make your own hours as long as you get the requirement. My boss was very flexible.

    Cons

Only offers to pay for 6 credits when they require you to take 9 credits to be full-time. Also don't allow you to have a scholarship to pay for the 3 credits out of pocket.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give grad assistants more credits or more stipend. Most including myself go above and beyond job description because we are short on people.

I have been working at Fairleigh Dickinson University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Beautiful campus, lots of great coworkers, nice students
    403b plan is generous
Opportunity to make an impact-- a lot of change is coming (new programs, hybrid classes) and people can shape these changes

    Cons

Lower pay than comparable schools. Lacks good databases for research.
College of business has had high turnover at top. Some tenured profs have no incentive to work as part of a team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to get better mgmt at top--bring in some new blood
Make some alliances with Drew and St E's
