Current Employee – been working at Fairview Health full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Wonderful co-workers, beautiful facilities, Strong history in Minnesota, Pay checks always clear the bank.
Cons – A LOT of job cuts, replacing many positions with casual non-benefit workers, Management is deaf to employee concerns or suggestions. Lack of recognition. Lack of opportunities for growth. Employees are treated as "replaceable". Left hand can't see the right hand disorganization. The senior employees resist change. Unions keep lazy employees around for a long time. Pensions were cut. Health insurance gets cuts every year. Vacation bank maximums are in the process of being reduced. Raises are few and far between. High staff turn over. Many greedy and deceptive CEOs.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to employee suggestion and concerns. Recognize employees that represent the company values. Find ways to promote employees from within. Upper management needs to listen to the laboratory management, laboratory management needs to listen to the laboratory employees. Everyone is on a different page.
– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pros – ROWE environment. The checks clear.
Cons – It has gotten steadily worse over the past couple of years. Cost of living adjustments are rare, raises even more so. Training is out unless you are new, underpaid and extremely green. Forget about peer training as most work exists in silos, even on a team there is almost no overlap of skills.
Benefits have decreased steadily, the pension plan got axed, the 403b matching is a joke and medical gets worse by leaps and bounds each year. The past three years we have been forced to burn/lose banked vacation time and getting time off is often a problem. Because of a lack of coverage, there is often the expectation you will continue working to some degree while on vacation.
Lately the problems have escalated. New development has been largely frozen, paperwork and progress meetings have taken over most of the week. We spend a great deal of time defending against the one person no one should not have to justify work to... our direct manager.
Work has taken a strange, incident-based approach. Run-the-business work that keeps the lights on and the systems running smoothly is now frowned upon. Instead, work is done only when something breaks and an incident is created. This type of reactionary workplace is eventually going to lead to all sorts of problems and potentially lawsuits.
In order to cover work with a reduced workforce, a concept of flexing is in place. Instead of doing what they are best at, highly trained professionals are out installing PC's and operating systems, doing data entry and installing software.
Advice to Senior Management – Put management in place that actually understands the work they are managing. Ex-healthcare providers or year 2000 holdover don't have the background to propel the company forward.
ROWE is about results and understand the work is a prerequisite for measuring those results, falling back to a warm-seat management style isn't good for the company. Train and respect your employees to show you value them.

Current Employee – been working at Fairview Health
Pros – Great values, good opportunities, good attitude towards patients and employees. Compensation is competitive.
Cons – like all Health Care Organizations, they are having to trim budgets and reorganize. Recent change in leadership after relationship with Accretive. Repairing and rebranding their image.
Advice to Senior Management – Stick with the Fairview Values, continue to engage employees as your stake holders. Strive to raise your customer service to the highest level of excellence in these competitive markets.

Current Employee – been working at Fairview Health full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – good place for new grads and those who are content with no growth.
Cons – short staffed many days, added work builds upon other tasks, good initial pay however not very good raises, not compensated for added work, often bullied by area management and when HR is notified bullying became worse.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees when they go to HR with serious concerns.
