    Pros

    People collaborate across all departments. This wasn't always the case. Many changes in the last year have invigorated the culture - new skills are being brought in all departments that work well with those possessing the knowledge in a very specific industry. Products being developed are finally going in the right direction - the leadership in IT is much improved.

    Cons

    Still some leadership at the top that needs to be changed. Continue to do what they've done for 30+ years - not progressive enough. Top leadership is out of touch with current technology or methods a lot of micromanagement.

    Advice to Management

    Top leadership needs to go to management training, need to get up to speed on technology. Stop micromanaging and let the good people that are in place do their job - the company will be much more successful than having two outdated people trying to run it all.

    Pros

    The senior management has gotten this company on the right track since mid 2013. The former management had things going in the wrong direction, but the owner stepped in, brought back some good employees who had left, got rid of some dead wood, put in strong leadership in Development , and now things are going very well. The negative reviews on this site are either from the old regime, or from some of the dead wood who were let go.

    Cons

    A lot of work to be done to make up for bad decisions by the previous management. 2014 will be a tough year, but 2015 should see a lot of growth.

    Advice to Management

    Need to raise the perception of FAME as a strong technology innovator in the higher education market and as a good employer in South Florida.

    Pros

    Most of the staff were very nice folks with a sincere interest in doing their best. Casual work environment and decent work/life balance.

    Cons

    1. The folks running the business have no clue how to run a business. The owner has recently had to get involved again after an ugly parting of the ways with the former CEO and has placed the former Sales Manager in "the" key role. Unfortunately, this person has been with FAME for 25 years and is only entrusted with this responsibility and faith from the owner because she knows the company and the for-profit school industry. But, her lack of actual business skills is mind-boggling - Communication skills are terrible, no people management skills (it's all stick, no carrot), doesn't understand brand and product management (there is no actual marketing department). I could go on, but the proof is in the fact that the company is being run into the ground. 2. Consistently dishonest communication with employees and clients. Sure sign that they value neither. 3. FAME is trying to be a technology company, but has no idea of how to go about it. Software development is haphazard and chaotic. Implementation is poorly executed. The best selling software is based on a DOS platform (not a joke). 4. Pay is just adequate; health benefits costs are outrageous 5. Lack of direction, lack of vision, and complete and utter denial of the issues and/or an unwillingness to address them. As a result, turnover rate is incredibly high.

    Advice to Management

    Advice to the owner: Clean house. Start with the former Sales Manager and continue with the development and implementation folks. Then, bring in professionals, let me repeat…professionals, who have the knowledge and abilities to actually run your company. Otherwise, expect more of the same (just remember the definition of insanity) and prepare to see the company you worked so hard to build die a slow and ugly death. It may actually be too late. Your current management has severely damaged the reputation of your company in an industry that already gets very little respect.

    - Clean the house. - Introduce skills assessment test for new hires in all depts and all levels. - Hire people with Product Development experience and vision. - Company products need direction. - Move current employees with domain knowledge to positions where they will be most useful

    Pros

    Good location, nice people, and a casual work environment. Great place to work except for the work.

    Cons

    Terrible management; crazy work environment, reacting to customer issues rather than taking a proactive approach. Constantly shifting priorities made every day stressful and unknown. No communication from management as to one's performance; if you don't get fired or laid off, guess you are doing a good job. New management brings in their own people and gives the crap work to the people with the most knowledge while the new people get to work on the good stuff. Another professional touch is to lay off a software developer and then advertise for their position a few weeks later, real classy organization. So, so happy to no longer work there.

    Advice to Management

    Learn how to manage. People are your greatest asset and treat them like they are. Give feedback to them so they can improve and offer opportunities to expand their knowledge. Listen to their ideas and offer an open and respectful environment for employees to express their ideas.

    Fair flexible schedule Good balance work and family time. Good product technology related goals

    Cons

    High turnover of employees Bad salary compensation Too high medical insurance premiums. Managers promises related to employee wantings falls short all of the time. Communications and involvement from upper management with employees is close to none. Doubts about Company financial stability, Research needed. The ridiculous: For EEs on a cubicle, they're not even given the right to have a key for their cabinet! (only managers,,)

    Advice to Management

    -Give employees better salaries -Give employees better insurance benefits. -Respect your employees by listening to their feedback and needs, maybe turnover will decline. Having happier employees increases high retention, they work harder, your products get better, and ultimately, your clients will be happier and referenceable going forwad to get new clients. -Give better work place accomodations and trust to employees. They in turn will give you their best.
