I worked at Farmer Bros. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people and exciting opportunities to work with foodservice products. You are only limited by how much you give back to the work. Different work everyday, new opportunities to grow the company.

    Cons

Very political environment - need to stay on your toes to stay ahead and out of the weeds.

    Pros

Great co-workers, work mostly on your own

    Cons

many of the management team that I worked with were completely incompetent. lots of stress thrown on the sales team by jr. & middle mngt. The co. is struggling and blames it all on you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really look at who's running your branches

I worked at Farmer Bros. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

None. I worked as hard as I could with no appreciation at all. Accounting, 30 cent raise in three years. They pretend to promote within but theydon't. Big named job title .... maybe a dollar more. Disorganized, working like a dog for nothing really.

    Cons

sad, heartbreaking ...... $4,000.00 in hospital bills for my baby being born, due to H/R and their health insurance. Five years later......... still in debt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

apprecaite the employees, give raises.... promote within , in a real way. Realize the people that really work hard.

I have been working at Farmer Bros. full-time

    Pros

Pay is pretty good but expectations are ridiculous. Good discount on coffee and other products.

    Cons

No room for growth, upper management is constantly turning and lower level managers are horrible. Benefits are terrible for the amount we pay. Very questionable pay practices of not paying overtime to sales force because they are considered "outside sales" even though they are delivery drivers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers that actually know something about management not just sales

I worked at Farmer Bros. full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You accrue vacation time as soon as you are hired on. You don't have to deal with anyone with any hr knowledge (all in California), free coffee at break time, and sometimes an upper will being donuts.

    Cons

No one at the okc branch knows what to do with temps. When you work you don't know who is really your boss because you may have 3, mind you 1 may actually know what your job entails. A lot of time wasted on meetings about time, potluck, and being friends with coworkers. Not enough time addressing problems when they arise like stealing, sexual harassment and bullying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get someone on there to represent HR onsite, retrain the current production manager, on second thought retrain all managers.

I have been working at Farmer Bros.

    Pros

Not much debt. I guess that's good.
Still small enough that it's not a large beauracracy filled with red tape. Since Sara Lee acquisition it's had a huge decline in the marketplace.

    Cons

Poor communication from senior management. Sara Lee acquisition has introduced weak managers from Sara Lee that have hurt Farmer Brother's reputation in the industry. Now losing customers due to poor operational support, out of stocks, pricing problems, etc. Executive managers out of touch with problems in the field due to minimization by ex-Sara Lee managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out and see the damage being done to Farmer Brother's customer base. Improve communications to your employees and recognize the poor management and direction coming from the ex-Sara Lee employees.
