I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company that boasts profitability, stability and longevity.

    Cons

Out of touch with competitor rates. Poor experience for the customer with claims. No programs to reward excellence or foster agents to reward staff. Service point staff not knowledgeable on guidelines and procedure. Help desk is not helpful. System difficult to work with and antiquated slow and unresponsive at times. Too much emphasis on sales and not enough on service to the clients. And the list could go on and on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of your cushy offices and take on the job of your lower tier staff. A stint on undercover boss could open your eyes immensely. You have no idea how difficult the company has made it to compete with competitors in areas of sales and service.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Farmers Insurance knows what type of employees they want and are willing to invest in you. I have only been working for Farmers Insurance in an entry-level position for 1 year, and I am already up for promotion in another department. The hours are flexible, and they have performance based incentives that are ACHIEVABLE! They are not one of those companies that will dangle a carrot just out of your reach all of the time. The workplace culture is very pleasant as well, a lot of focus on diversity, family, and equality. If you're honest and hardworking, you can actually go places in Farmers Insurance! You don't need to worry about your peers taking advantage of your integrity.

    Cons

The work can be hard at times, and really easy at others. As a result, it can be exhausting - going up and down all day long with really difficult tasks followed by such an easy task that you doubt you're doing it right. There is a lot of employee turnover, but it is because Farmers knows what type of employees they want. Bad workers get fired or get burned out, while the good workers get promoted within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the focus on making your employees and the communities you serve happy! It seems to be doing a decent job and can only pay off in the long term.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are different districts and each district is unique in terms of the people you work with and the way the DM has their office set up. I personally was lucky enough to find a wonderful DM and the office environment was amazing. I have learned so much under my DM's wing. I not only learned so much about the insurance industry, but was able to have my DM be a mentor for me.

    Cons

Farmers Insurance as a company has a huge disconnect between the company and the District Managers and the Agents. It's all politics and the company employees are useless. There are the few who are smart and hardworking, but most of them are guys who got their positions because they are drinking buddies with those in the hiring capacity. They don't proofread their emails and are constantly sending written correspondence that will make you shudder by the sheer ignorance and lack of grammar/spelling skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees to follow through on requests. Don't be a typical 'checking boxes' employee and add value to the district managers, their staff, as well as the agents and their staff. If you say something is wrong, give reasons why, give solutions, give feedback.
