I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pros are that they would give us little incentives. Such as doing questionnaires on new product and the winner would get a visa card for $25. Paid lunches during holidays. Casual Fridays. The team with the highest evaluation scores would get to wear jeans all month.

    Cons

The managers all had their favorite clicks of employees, that were invited to parties at their homes. Evaluations were never the same, what was fine to say to 10 of the clients suddenly was not right for one, or your tone of voice was not proper. If you were not on the "click" list, then nothing was forgiven on the evaluations that were done once a month. If they had the time, if not then they would stack 2 or 3 bad ones on top of you and give you a written warning.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees fair and just.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I work with are really great. They really try to do the right thing and give a good customer experience. If you like a friendly atmosphere then Farmers does have that going for them.

    Cons

I work in the Service Center which is essentially a call center environment with headsets, cubicles, and computers for 8 hours a day. I've had a bad experience with management and HR regarding short term disability. The company has issues with working efficiently and likes to change, but not always for the best.

    Pros

Great learning opportunity, company takes care of you if you work hard. Established processes and business rules you would want for a long standing company.

    Cons

Large company. Must accept parent company bureaucracy and must make Board and shareholder expectations a priority.

    Advice to Management

None, keep doing what you're doing

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, ok pay, limited upside opportunity. Some flexibility in your schedule. Could be more or less depending on the district you belong to. Raising the bar for agents which should help reputation on the street. Number 3 P&C company (by acquisition, not growth).

    Cons

Grumpy agents, corporate mentality, initiatives are constantly changing. Even though you are an advocate for all agents in your district, you will ultimately have to march to the beat of the company drum. Forcing company initiatives is part of your daily life. Tough to get buy-in from agents since they are used to seeing frequent changes in territory leadership/initiatives.

    Advice to Management

District Managers are not common in this industry and they are a part of an expensive distribution model. Either empower them to make a difference or eliminate the role so you are free to drive initiatives from the company level.

Good coworkers, happy management who honestly care about their employees. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

No health insurance, no life insurance, terrible pay, no training.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees based on their performance not based on seniority. Get rid of non preforming employees. Get health insurance for your full time employees. Train better please!
