    Pros

Gain a good understanding of basic retail functions (working a cash register, greeting/assisting customers, inventory, etc.). This part time position was my first job and I think it provided me with valuable customer service skills and understanding for future positions.

    Cons

My manager was quite eccentric and tended to be unprofessional at times in the way she treated employees and also in her appearance. Though this was not a corporate position, a certain level of professionalism should still be maintained in any work place.

    Pros

It was a great company, I was given my first position as a manager there only 3 months after working there, and it was at the recommendation of our store manager. A position of "Key Holder" was created to transfer me into the position of assistant manager. The strongest compliment that I received was from our district manager, and she told our manager that hiring me was one of the best things that she had done; this gave me great confidence, because this was my first management position, and my first time working in retail. That compliment gave me great confidence in my work ethic. I worked there from 1999 until I went back to school in 2002, but when I came back in 2010 after finishing school and working a few other jobs, I fell right back in place, and was promoted back to management, but unfortunately the company closed in December of 2012, but I enjoyed the 6 years of employment and experience that I gained from the working with a great company, and great people.

    Cons

Promoting the credit card to customers was a challenge

    Advice to Management

The management was great , I honestly can't complain. They were fair.

    Pros

Promotions from within when available, amazing discounts, great training programs.

    Cons

Pay was not as competitive for management as it should've been. Lots of workload, with no additional hours, but if you were a great manager, you got it done within time limits.

    Advice to Management

I would never have left this company had it not closed it's doors thanks to Ascena Group. It was affordable clothing, amazing employees, and a very happy environment. Sad to see it go. SHAME ON YOU ASCENA!!
