I worked at Fast Signs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There was no room for promotion, there no benefits, time off was never an issue.

    Cons

To much work for one person, very stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employee as part of the time. Compliment them when a job is well done, do not always criticize.

    I worked at Fast Signs

    Pros

Turning signs quickly, production processes that not many sign shops use.

    Cons

Franchise owner was far from being a people person.Nothing like berating the manager and others in front of the staff to really make people hate their job. Another former employee came on board 2 weeks before I was transferred to another location. He told me later (in a chance meeting) that he only lasted 3 weeks after I left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is aimed @ Fastsigns Corporate, take stock of how your franchise owners treat employees

No room for growth as a Graphic Designer.

I worked at Fast Signs full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Gained a lot of Printing Skills, Prepress and Post production. Learned a lot about client relations. Acquired a vast knowledge of Sign Projects from start to finish.

    Cons

There was not much room for financial growth. It's a franchise that has a Mom and Pop like setup. Nepotism keeps you from gaining more from the company. You could potentially work for someone less skilled and less knowledgeable than yourself. That can create an instant conflict. You will wear many hats, and your pay may not reflect that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more in tune with who's running the franchise. If they don't posses the knowledge required in this competitive industry, you're hurting your own potential.

    I worked at Fast Signs

    Pros

    • Nice people
    • Opportunities to learn new things
    • Opportunities to refine the overall production process

    Cons

    • Some jobs were expected to be completed in ridiculous conditions. Creating a tent of tarps over a vehicle in a snowstorm and heating it with a space heater so vinyl could be applied to a truck was just not acceptable. Rent a garage or something if it's that crucial or reschedule the installation. Hanging off ladders which are positioned in snow is also sketchy.

    • Not career pay. Stepping-stone pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep being good people but be more sensitive to the conditions your employees are working in at times.

  7.

    I worked at Fast Signs

    Pros

Manager was understanding. Small Bonus' for good performance. Signs are fun to make if you have good attention to detail. You're not sitting in front of computer all day.

    Cons

Not many, sign installation can be hard if you need to dig holes to install outdoors post signs etc. If you have good attention to detail this is a fairly relaxed job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better safety equipment, especially a quality latter would be very useful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage benefits to keep employees around.
