I have been working at FastSigns full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Industry to meet lots of new people, friendly staff, very small company, I can bring my kids to work if needed.

    Cons

no commission before $20,000, no paid time off and no inside commission .
Plano office dose not provide laptop, toll tags or product training for outside sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Owner should be more up to date on equipment, understand when you hire someone with no experience they need training and don't down talk. I say give your employees a reason to want to sell your product.

    Pros

Great people, nice office, decent pay.

    Cons

Benefits are minimal and there is very little room for advancement within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more opportunities for advancement within the company, even if it's something as simple as creating some Lead or Senior-level positions.

    Pros

Can learn different aspects of sign production.

    Cons

May not get to learn different aspects of sign production. There may be a "division of labor", so-to-speak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Oh, are they listening?

An alright company for young summer work, but it can get demanding and unrewarding very quickly.

    I worked at FastSigns full-time

    Pros

Each shop is individually owned and operated, so it will vary.
-Alright benefits, but not enough to rely on for anything huge.
-Great hands-on work for beginner graphic designers.
-Manual labor to keep you in shape.

    Cons

Again... every shop varies, but this was my experience.
-Unfair, bottom of the barrel wages with no incentives, no bonuses (except for the franchisees)
-Often intense manual labor that can be unsafe.
-Absolutely no space for growth. These franchises are made to make one person happy, and that person isn't promoting anyone but themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This won't apply to all shops, but try to invest in your workers instead of rifling through them.
For the people up top in TX, spend more time actually investigating what goes on in these shops... One store front sells 48" LED backlit channel letters, and the next one doesn't even own a bucket truck. The ability to pick and choose your store's specialties is outstanding, but there is no uniformity, whatsoever.

    Pros

    The customer base is fantastic

    Cons

The owner cares more about padding his pocket than providing a quality product or respecting his employees. He called an employee a "clocksucker" because he thought she was taking to long on a project. This employee was a great worker that always stayed busy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect and take care of your employees and upgrade/repair your equipment.
