    Pros

FastSigns stores are individually owned franchises. Since it is a franchise the company has a good advertising and is well organized. Being individually owned, it is like working for a small family owned business.

    Cons

I did not see any downsides.

    Pros

Strong corporate leadership and positive work environment. Fun and enjoyable work environment with creative people and a product that all businesses need. Lots of good marketing and a great corporate reputation and brand recognition.

    Cons

Franchises are individually owned so you must answer to local owner not corporate executives. There seems to be a disconnect from the corporation to the local ownership.

    Advice to Management

Take a little more time to fully support new technologies before pushing them out to the stores. The ideas are great but sometimes there is a failure in execution of new things that can hurt the individual franchises reputation.

    Pros

It is fun and exciting to see my work spread through out and around the city or sacramento.

    Cons

    They don't pay me enough

    Advice to Management

Pay your designers competitively. By competitively I mean with other designers not other positions.

    Pros

There really aren't any pros. I hope not to be here much longer.

    Cons

No HR so if you get stuck with bad managers there is basically nothing you can do about it. My manager is sexist and told me (a woman) that I should only answer the phone if everyone else is already on calls. When he bought the business he had absolutely no knowledge about the business and still months later he doesn't even understand the materials or basic sign shop stuff, even though I have been there for less time than him I have been able to quickly pick up all aspects of the job from writing estimates, to printing and production....it's really not that hard to figure out. My managers adjust the time clock every week so even if I don't take an hour lunch they adjust my hours that I took an hour lunch, so basically they are not paying me for a lot of the work I do every week. This is probably the worst job I have ever had because of the management. I tried to get in touch with corporate but they make it almost impossible to find out how to do that on their website and of course management doesn't provide any of that information.

    Pros

FASTSIGNS corporate provides a lot of tools to their franchise owners and they have certain expectations of the franchise, which can be good if the franchise owner is open to them. A FASTSIGNS franchise can be a relaxed but professional atmosphere, depending on the owner. The best thing I can say about the franchise owner I worked for is that he was loyal to his people, meaning he never really fired anyone ... even if they really needed to be let go.

    Cons

Again it all boils down to the franchise owner, the one I worked for was not a good boss, or business manager, or anything. The business operated pretty well for a long time, but I think that had more to do with luck, the previous good economy, and the good people he had working for him.
