Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – Work life balance, reasonable salary and good benefits. Depending on where you work your job could be challenging and rewarding too. Never a boring moment.
Cons – Extremely limited opportunities for career advancement and promotions. They hire the best in the world and then let them languish at the same position for years without any hope of a promotion. The promotion policy is vague and undefined...usually depends on who you know and who knows you. Merit is not always the criteria.
The company's attitude of trying to please everybody promotes mediocrity and frustrates and demotivates high performers.
Advice to Senior Management – Management must be more discerning in judging employees' performance. Learn to distinguish between the "ok" , the "good" and the "great" employee and institute appropriate policies. 90% of the employees cannot and should not have the same rating year over year.

Former Employee – worked at FedEx
Pros – The best reasons to work for Fedex include the following:
-The ability to work for a great company
-The experience of working for a top notch organization
-Great name for building your resume
-Great benefits and competitive pay
-Everyone knows what FedEx does
-For the most part, people are truly valued by the company
-Work/life balance is good
Cons – The downsides to working at Fedex include the following:
-Career opportunities are limited because people in management rarely leave FedEx
-Some questionable people in management
-Employee development could use improvement
-Memphis is not the best of cities to work and live in
Advice to Senior Management – I would tell senior management to assess some of the current people in management. In addition, they need to integrate the operating companies a lot better and reduce the redundancies.

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – The overall pay is excellent. FEDEX provides a reasonable benefits package as well. If you like to travel and fly to strange places at very odd hours, this is the job.
Cons – Slow advancement due to the change in mandatory retirement age and difficult economy. Although some of the flying can be quite interesting, much of it is to challenging locations in challenging conditions with arduous on duty periods. There is no real opportunity for personal or professional growth much like any pilot position as it is strictly a seniority based system.
Advice to Senior Management – Start recognizing that FEDEX is no longer domestic based express distribution company, but a globally networked logistics corporation. Now is the time to be agressive internationally and no time to nickel and dime critical employees, especially in overseas positions.

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – Great company to work for , hands down!! People are very proud to work for FedEx. THe company is constantly changing and growing. I have every confidence that this company is extremely ethical and would not compromise it's integrity! FedEx has always had a no lay-off philosophy!! Each FedEx family member is responsible to keep this philosophy in tact.
Cons – Just as with any company, there are always a few bad apples with bad attitudes! If you don't want to work for this family, don't apply! We only want people that will make a contribution and have a commitment to work hard so that we can feed the thousands of employees that work here. We have that responsibility as employees!
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to steer this company in the right direction.

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – Flexibility - Fedex is very casual and laid back. Unless you work in dot-com or other critial business areas you'll work 40 hours or less a week.
Cons – Politics, micromanagement, meetings - it depends on which area you work but getting ahead at FedEx is about who you know and who you network with at FedEx. The secret to getting ahead at FedEx is to make it your life, bleed orange and purple, be on your blackberry 24/7/365 to your mgrs. Excessive reporting on your activities. Each month I have 2 meetings with my director on project updates, monthly dashboard updates, weekly timekeeping and weekly project meetings. Anything less and you'll be branded a "cowboy" or not a team player. More time is spent on how you do things vs. getting the work done.
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your employees, stop the meetings. Develop job titles that lie between a manager and individual contributor. There are talented leaders like me who do not wish to participate in management becasue of the excessive politics. I've never worked at a place where the perception of what you do has more weight than the results you product.

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – great brand, great cost of living, good quality/life balance. very good brand if you are looking as fedex as a stepping stone into another company or career
Cons – complacent workplace, too much status quo, industry hasn;'t evolved in last 25 years, only 2-3 competitors...
for the most part, (always there are exceptions to the rule) salary and bonus increases range from 2.9% for a lousy job to 3.1% for an excellent job
Advice to Senior Management – supply and demand, the fact that memphis doesn't have many other companies to work for doesn;t mean there shouldnt be opportunities for advancement

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – Worklife balance, low cost of living in memphis, Fortune 500 company, one of the best brands, most admired companies in the world. You are not expected to put in more than 40 hours of work each week and do get fabulous discounts with retailers/restaurants in memphis
Cons – If you are looking for career path and career growth, management typically looks down on people with initiative and aggressive career goals. They mostly want followers and people who follow them blindly without asking any questions.. Middle management has limited leadership capabilities and minimal business skills.
Advice to Senior Management – learn to manage, get some business skills

Current Employee – been working at FedEx
Pros – Job security and a very strong brand.
Cons – Hard work in sales is not rewarded by the appropriate bonus compensation. The compensation plan get worse every year.
Advice to Senior Management – Quit making the comp plan so complicated that management can't even understand it. It's an obvious attempt to cover up the fact that the goal of management is to pay out smaller bonuses.
