Pros
Great Benefits, Ability to Relocate and Move Up if Wanted.
Cons
Poor work life balance, Poor reward and recognition, Poor place to be developed. The biggest con is the culture of the workforce, espcially the "entriched" old school managers. Many are unprofessional and lack business decorum. They are very resistant to change and don't consider work life balance issues. The management doesn't want to listen to employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees like they are your most valuable asset
Pros
Exercise
Regular customers
Not in an office
Cons
Low pay relative to industry
Lack of benefits
You are a FedEx employee even though you're not
Work conditions largely dependent on the competence of your boss (ie. truck repairs, route, stress)
Blizzards are not fun
Boring after awhile
Advice to Senior Management
Now, we all know that the situation at Ground/HD will not last, whether you have "Independent Contractors" or "Corporations" (notice the quotation marks). The sooner you create a FedEx Express type of situation (market pay, great benefits, good maintenance of equipment), the less damage you will do to the brand (financially, image, etc.). The only question I have is, "What will be the catalyst to make that happen?" It will be interesting to see what that will be.
Pros
it's a job and you are seriving the community
Cons
guilty until you prove you are innocent
Advice to Senior Management
Stop pointing the fingers and take responability for your actions
Pros
FedEx Ground provides an intense environment, but also a daily sense of accomplishment. Development is a growing focus in the company. FedEx Ground provides the resources for employees to take charge of their career and accomplish their career goals. Although the work is intense, the culture is very relaxed. It truely is a big FedEx family environment everywhere you go within the company, there is that common bond that unites us. I've never worked for a company that has the culture that is at FedEx. FedEx offers competitive salaries and great benefits.
Cons
As with any large corporation, FedEx Ground has its share of pork (employees who don't pull their weight). FedEx Ground's approach to the problems has encouraged some of this behavior. It become too large in many respects. Also, the employees are watching a change from putting People first, to putting numbers first. There's a lack of recognition for the accomplishments. Too often, the negative is pointed out, yet the positive goes unnoticed. A facility can hit a particular goal for several weeks in a row (maybe even exceed that goal). Not much or nothing may be said about it. However, if that facility falls short one week, then upper management is quick to point it out and give orders to address it immediately.
Advice to Senior Management
It is difficult to be an agent of change when it comes to all the decisions the come down the ladder. Along with giving us the information to send down to the troops, it would be helpful for you to send an explanation for us to convey as well. Employees are tired of receiving our positive spin on change. They want to receive honest and concrete information from the ones who actually enacted the change. Managers receive conflicting messages. On one respect, they are told--more like pressured--by upper management to hit certain goals at any cost. On the other hand, it seems to shock upper management when lower management resorts to unethical means to get to those goals. Too often the message to managers is, "get to this number or you'll be gone." Sometimes, that approach may be justified. Sometimes, it's not.
Pros
better than no job to work .
Cons
short hours at this location , 2 hr a day
Advice to Senior Management
