    Intern Insights

Marketing Intern (Former Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsThe people at FedEx are amazing. The company pays very well, even its interns. My higher ups did a great job of making me feel comfortable and included. The culture is fun and vibrant. Being such a big company they get to play with the other "big boys."

ConsThere is a lot of red tape to get through at FedEx. Everything has to go through legal and brand scrutiny. Being such a large company, your field of work is very narrow, especially in marketing as there are several teams and multiple directors.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep making sure that your employees feel included and appreciated. Try to facilitate a good work/life balance for salaried employees so they do not burn out.

Great Company, good benefits, lots of changes

Project/Process Advisor (Current Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsThe benefits are good, the company has a great reputation, the values are there. Currently undergoing alot of work force changes.

ConsThe perks that were once available are not anymore. Sometimes it feels that the company is beginning to forget the individuals and it is all about the bottom line. The benenfits are declining and are not as good as they once were.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring back some of the perks for the employees that have been discontinued over the last 10 years

excellent company that cares for it's employees

Business Applications Advisor (Current Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsCollaborative environment with learning opportunities and challenging work. Every employee has a direct impact on the bottom line and are able to see how their individual contributions help the growing company take it's place as a top competitor in the market. Competitive salaries, great benefits, and employee perks make this a great place to work.

Conswith the slowing economy and not as much natural attrition, opportunities for advancement are lacking

    Fedex....Good Company....Great Part Time Jobs

Package Handler (Former Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsGreat American story. Lots of teamwork and comrades..sometimes you run across lazy employees but good manager address this accordingly

ConsThe job is very physical if you work in the hub. Also the weather can be extreme during mid summer and winter...dress appropriately

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease don't remove benefits for part timers when current CEO retires

    Wonderful company.

    Manager (Current Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsGreat people. The market leader in shipping and logistics. The CEO is fantastic.

ConsLow salary, tough to advance. Recent erosion of great people programs. Senior management has lost touch with the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou will lose all the great employees if you balance the books on the backs of those employees. Erosion of the benefits and a willingness to short change the employees is not a long term strategy.

Great if You Live in memphis

Senior Technical Analyst (Current Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsGood healthcare and benefits. Relatively good job security as long as you do your job at a half competent level (i.e. they don't really fire anyone). Good willingness to embrace a healthy work-life balance.

ConsManagement is hit or miss. Many of the managers seem to people who have just been around long enough that they've been promoted because they have the most seniority. Team building and incorporating remote workers into work groups is a challenge that is given LOTS of lip service, but no real support.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement training needs to be much more extensive. There is little support from direct supervisors for their personnel and often times things are done at the lower levels simply because the manager caved to another manager to avoid conflict and get out of a discussion. Making sure to include all employees in office events without forcing them to be there is a difficult walk, but needs to be done. Employee grading system needs to be reworked. Giving an employee the opportunity to explain their duties and success or failures then rate their performance for the year based on them is meaningless if the employee score is not weighted, at least somewhat, into the final grading. If an employee wins 2 awards in one calendar year for doing a fine job in their work, that employee should not be graded as having done just "met expectations".

Horrible!! DO NOT work here whatsoever

Senior Programmer Analyst (Former Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsA bit more relaxed work environment when compared to financial institution

ConsThey treat consultants like a piece of shiz. Due to their stupid data security rules, remote access is banned which makes it tough to handle night time prod tickets if you have to be in office in person at 1 AM midnight.
They have the best IT tools, but don't really know/have the talent to use it upto even a 10%. They hire a lot of consultants with a fixed 11 month term and when these consultants leave, there is enough brain drain to destroy some key knowledge base. There is hatred and repulsion towards consultants and they are always thought of by FT employees as those who are just destroying their beautifully built mansion (code) and treat consultants like outsiders in all aspects. If they don't like any consultant ( or if there is a Budget cut) they come up with excuses all of a sudden to show that a Consultants quality of work is not good and will be let go without even a day's notice. Very ruthless and disrespectful treatment of consultants.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsultants are NOT aliens who join your company to destroy your beautiful world! Give the professionals the respect that they at-least deserve! At the very least have some visibility in terms of technical issues faced due to restriction of accesses to systems and data. You cannot expect competent work quality if you are not giving proper facilities and accesses.
