I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for, simply the best company in the metro Memphis area. The only Fortune 100 company in the metro area as well (to my knowlege). Company has jobs which comes with Career tracks. Great company culture.

    Cons

Far too much company politics. Slow to adapt and change. Seems like it's the "superstar" employees that do the real work of the company, while the others are just running their mouths but not accomplishing much. Limited salary gains and very paltry bonuses. Healthcare plan is mediocre.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your productive employees better. The ones that really accomplish the objectives of the company, give them the pay they deserve.

I worked at FedEx as an intern

    Pros

Great support staff for interns, excellent campus

    Cons

We were forced to program on old, small netbooks. It made simple tasks take longer than necessary. My intern group was assigned two 5-week projects. The first was challenging and rewarding, but the second was extremely easy and we didn't have much to do for a few weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assign projects based on the relevant skills of the interns in a group. My group had 4 programmers, and our second project required almost no programming and was extremely simple.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

FedEx cares about the employees. There are opportunities to work in various areas and bits of training to be had. Layoffs are not a part of the culture if possible.

    Cons

Slow to adapt. Enterprise-sized bureaucracy prevails. Difficult to get newer techniques and technologies in-place. In some jobs you can feel lost as a gear in the machine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Small teams. Fail fast.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stability - You have to really mess up to lose your job

    Cons

Long work hours, little recognition, reduced benefits, difficult to get promoted, very political culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop reducing head count and overloading the existing resources to complete 2 or 3 jobs in addition to their day job. Outsourcing development is not the answer. It is only creating more problems.

I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, training, and opportunities for career advancement

    Cons

Hourly employees work extremely hard but are not paid wages that reflect their worth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

FedEx has lost sight of its PSP philosophy over the past 10 years - the focus is on the shareholders and not employees who have and continue to make FedEx successful.
