Pros
Promotional opportunities, competitive pay, great benefits, good training.
Cons
New COO seems to have one purpose in life - to make center visits a miserable, anxious and demotivating experience. In the old days our teams were so excited to receive a visit from the top people, now they dread it. The People aspect of the company philosophy no longer exists.. people are now a disposable commodity, and its hurting morale. We will hire extenal candidates at much higher salaries that we will give to experienced staff within the organization.. there i sno logic to this process, but still we adhere to it. members
Advice to Senior Management
Remember that the team, the managers, the DMs and the MDs are working incredibly hard, and trying to keep up with the knee-jerk changes you constantly impose.. stop being so quick to attack when your arbitrary changes dont happen overnight. We get no explanation to why they are inmposed, or how to deal with them - the so-called management have a "Just do it" phililosophy.
Pros
Good company, you are not fired immediately, it is a fair company- if the job doesnt fit you-they will place you in the right position where your skills are matched; no layoffs.. in this tough economy, this is still a good place to work at. with benefits, even part timers are eligible.
Cons
Salary wise is not enough, having a position in a crucial role should be paid at least more. Give us a raise, sales people should get commission like other company does. We are the bread and butter in this company, hope they will give us sales commission aside from our base pay. :(
Advice to Senior Management
Change your sales plantform, give the salesman their commission.. again, please.
Pros
Stable - pretty hard to get terminated and virtually no layoffs 2008 withstanding. Good benefits, culture of fun, very people/employee oriented. Attempt to promote from within when available.
Cons
Promote from within ends up placing unqualified staff into positions they can not be successful within. Then the culture of not wanted to hold people accountable for performance, not wanting to lay anyone off or terminate, combined with not a lot of movement - results in people staying the wrong position for years on end, requiring additional, qualified headcount to be added... and the bloat and red tape continue...
Advice to Senior Management
Mandatory retirement; establish policy (or enforce existing policy) to put on performance plan the bottom 10% of performers.
Pros
They offer health benefits and 401k company match. They will hire just about anyone, as long as you smile during the interview.
Cons
Too many expectations.
Always focused on what you do wrong.
Variable incentives made more and more unreachable every year.
Managers don't manage, they are salesmen.
Everyone in corporate is your boss.
A lot of pointless process and time wasting.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more workers in the smaller stores and focus less on things that are time wasters. One person should not be working a copy shop and shipping store.
Pros
Great place to practice exceptional customer service.
Cons
Management did not know how to effectively deal with inappropriate behavior.
Advice to Senior Management
Inappropriate behavior should be addressed.
Pros
They train you very well and are flexible. The ability to move up in position is there and you can quickly rise up if you work hard enough and have the necessary skills.
Cons
I cannot really say a downside as far as maybe a bit more information regarding how to move up to certain positions would be great.
Pros
The people at FedEx Office were the absolute best. They were considerate, caring, and dedicated to one another. More like family than co-workers.
Cons
After company restructure, great people were let go and it was never the same afterward.
Pros
Yearly raises are usually fair. Store management is good.
Cons
Degrees aren't valued at FedEx Office.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve your HR department and allow educated individuals to advance into other aspects of the business.
Pros
you work on different projects everyday
Cons
they hire from without not within
Advice to Senior Management
stand up for team members who want to get the next position...look at the quality of work and eagerness not just the resume of a person outside of the company
Pros
401k
Tuition reimbursement
Job opportunities in other cities and states
Transfering to other fedex companies
Training
Health benefits
Shipping discounts
Feedback
Cons
If you are in a smaller center that happens to be in a smaller town promotion opportunities are far and few between.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership is very solid at fedex and they spend alot of time away from family being involved at the ground level across the nation.
