I have been working at FedEx part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Interline discounts haven't changed other than 6mos certification on dress code and conduct as a representative.

    Cons

Higher out of pocket health costs, retirement contribution match not what it used to be, takes longer to top out. New hires earn almost as much starting than 10 yr employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know the job you are managing so you can lead by example, developing and recognizing strengths rather than weaknesses. Look toward engaging good workers, rewarding excellence instead of praising and encouraging mediocrity in the workplace. Enable visionary team support instilling pride and trust. Eliminate negativity, competition and rivalry which breeds contempt in the workplace as in hour distribution. Focus on the talent in your workgroup and how they are best served.

I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are very good, lots of training available, clean and pleasant office, and all the necessary up-to-date tools to complete the work. Good work/ life balance.

    Cons

The workload was heavy and sometimes very monotonous. There was very little room for advancement without going to Memphis. Progressing to higher positions takes a LONG time. There is also very little regulating the management from nurturing and advancing their 'favorites' based on their relationship not the skill level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to regulate how management conducts themselves regarding interoffice/ personal relationships. There are many employees who work very hard and do not see the rewards because they are not considered one of the managers favorites.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to learn a lot about printing and shipping.

    Cons

Promotions(they rarely promote within the company, if you are lucky enough to do so, it takes a loooong time, and barely a raise), raises suck, no company perks besides 75% off Express shipments, if you are "full time" you will be given about 30 hours(don't expect 40), the training SUCKS terribly...be prepared to learn EVERYTHING on your own as it happens.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to Management would be to be sure you have selected trainers, they do their job CORRECTLY, and the new employers are trained appropriately.

I worked at FedEx as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

This job was pretty easy, and paid reasonably well considering the ease of the job. People were friendly throughout several of the departments I worked in conjunction with.

    Cons

For whatever reason, FedEx only uses contractors for the bulk of the work in their NOC. The contracts expire after 11 months (more specifically 11 months worth of hours), and has n o option to renew beyond that. This puts strain on the working environment because there is constant employee churn. Beyond that, the few permanent employees complain incessantly about how hard their jobs are, when they actually do very little work. I was expected to do 90% of the work on each of the respective shifts I worked on, out of the 2-man team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire permanent employees, or be up-front in the interview that contracts rarely ever turn into full-time positions.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

No chance to get bored at this job! Good pay and benefits. Physically demanding, so less time at the gym. No layoff policy (even throughout the recession). Many opportunities for career advancement and able to transfer anywhere in the world if there is a position open.

    Cons

Sometimes long hours and Saturday work required. Physically demanding. Productivity expectations are sometimes unreasonable. Fast pace and covering different areas is not for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on customer service and less on stops per hour. Listen to input from those who actually do the job and not just the engineers.
