I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible Hours, Good People, Interesting and Challenging Work, Fair Management

    Cons

Under market in pay scales (utilize wide, broad base pay bands that can result in massive differences in pay within the same job code), extremely difficult to move into management roles, and behind on diversity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some diversity in upper management. 50-65 year old white men shouldn't run every company. Grow your internal talent and pay them market rates. Pay bands need serious revision.

I have been working at FedEx

    Pros

    Flexible. Work is consistent

    Cons

No benefits, 401k or otherwise. Most people get a check and that's it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the sub contracting model. it's unsustainable.

I have been working at FedEx as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Systems are setup so that there is a standard template for just about everything.

    Cons

Approval levels are way beyond whats normal in other industries. Project managers are not given any more than about $20,000 authority. About that there are 4 additional approvals even for standard PO's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Of course there needs to be some CHECK's for approvals, however, levels of authorization need to be reviewed.

I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people in my department were good people for the most part. My direct manager was one of the nicest people I've ever met that put family first in front of work even though the company does not.

    Cons

Compensation is awful for the work I was doing. Spent 10 years of my life there. Seven of those years I was stuck in one department trying to get out to no avail. I know the industry from start to finish but because it's divided into separate OP-Cos it's nearly impossible to switch to other positions. The corporate headquarters for ground is full of nepotism. I would apply for jobs then later find out the people hired had little to no experience but were friends of employees or family or attractive young women hired by male managers. Getting out was a great decision for me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. There is so much talent you are looking over. You lost a loyal, high performing, employee because of the good ol boy mentality in Pittsburgh.

    absolutely no career opportunities
    not monday-friday work schedule anymore

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

FedEx makes you feel like you make the world go around (later, you realize you actually do!) - you are taught to live something we call the Purple Promise that simply states "I will make every FedEx experience outstanding". Very soon, you realize that dock loaders, desk workers, strategists, individual contributors, managers and executives actually believe this stuff and care about not just getting the job done but they actually care how you felt before, during and after you did it!! Very strange to most people under pressure to perform but the level of buy-in at the highest levels of the company shows newcomers right away that this company truly puts people first. If you're not feeling good about doing something, they want to know why - genuinely and fix it before you proceed.
Quality Driven Management - This program has roots into every nook and cranny of operations and IT. FedEx truly believes in continuously improving to get better, finding better ways of doing things, being more efficient, gaining new skills and always pushing the boundaries of achievement while at the same time encouraging employees to live heavy family lives, taking vacations, flexible work from home options (mandatory 2 weeks of work from home) etc.
When you're feeling this good about your work and your contributions, I challenge you to put out poor work - you can't - it's not possible.

    Cons

There aren't enough observed national holidays - I think FedEx (being a worldwide deliver business) only observes 6 National holidays.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The training is very intense, you come into your job knowing FedEx in and out. Flexible work schedule. Good starting salary. They put a lot of time and effort into understanding that you are an employee and not a number. Acting as a consultant instead of a sales professional.

    Cons

Very limited opportunities for advancement without moving. Collaboration with different internal contacts can be difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management can become stagnant, haven't performed duties of the job in many years. Need to re-do the job again so they can understand challenges.
