Pros
Great people in a team-oriented environment. I spent 25 years there, and learned invaluable skills that have served me well since I left. I was generally happy with the managers I worked for, and the culture was people-friendly, fast-paced, and fun.
From a work standpoint, there were always interesting, challenging projects that kept me interested and engaged. We weren't afraid to push the envelope on technology, and most of the time I could see how my efforts contributed to the bottom line.
Over the years, I developed a wonderful network of professional associates and friends, and will always value my time at Fedex.
Cons
Fedex is BIG, and the challenges of managing that size of organization has led to an over-reliance on rules and procedures that tend to hider productivity and innovation. More and more, it is losing the ability to respond to market pressures and opportunities in a timely fashion.
Additionally, the company has lost the managerial edge that propelled its success in early years. They have acquired a glut of mid-level corporate survivors who rely more on preserving the status-quo than taking the risks necessary for competitive success.
From an employee standpoint, a job at Fedex is not as secure as it once was. While they formerly had a no-layoff policy, they have abandoned it. Layoffs aren't frequent, but they are now part of the Fedex culture, with the attendant effects on morale.
Advice to Senior Management
I'm not a management consultant, so I don't know how to address Fedex's decline; however, I will make a general suggestion:
Rededicate yourself to the people, service, profit philosophy that marked Fedex as something special in the past. Layoffs and benefit cuts only show your employees that you are conventional in your thinking, and lack faith in them to assure your collective future.
Find other ways to deal with economic downturns and staff reallocation that are more consistent with PSP. That won't be easy, but excellence never is.
Pros
Good benefits and pay. Exciting projects to work on. Stable company.
Cons
Lots of politics. Slow to get anything done or approved.
Advice to Senior Management
Make it easier to get things done. Get rid of the bureacracy.
Pros
good benefit package
job stability
working as a team
learn many things
Cons
do not get paid enough, considereing what you do
employee drama
thrown into the mix and sink or swim
only 3percent increase in pay once a year
Pros
The brand is something to be proud of.
Cons
There is minimal upward mobility.
Advice to Senior Management
I appreciate the opportunities that have been provided. Its a great place to work and I'm very proud to say I do.
Pros
Most employees at FedEx were friendly and management was amazing. The hub manager was always on floor, and the assistant manager had weekly meetings to ensure everyone was working together. An overall good experience.
Cons
Not recommended to anyone with ANY back or joint problems as there are very heavy packages, and there are a very few counter productive employees.
Advice to Senior Management
I honestly think that there couldn't be a better team of leadership at a business. In every step of the way there was always someone to help, no matter what.
Pros
Good team of colleagues. bad coffee, good internal learning program
Cons
to many managers who look up, and forget to look down to the workers, all the time budget cuts work with FedEx now for more than 12 years. all extra bonus and or Employee Benefits are cut back, or shut down over a period of 10 years now. this crisis will not help to improve these bonus or benefits back soon.
Advice to Senior Management
next time i will make this advise, as i dont have the time to do so now ,need 3 words more i see to get this posted ;-)
Pros
- Great co-workers. All of them were friendly and hard-working, and willing to help out.
- Pay was higher than expected.
- Very relaxed atmosphere.
Cons
- Grueling requirements.
- Unreasonable requests.
- Dark and cramped spaces
- Very biased. Expected me to do more work than others due to my gender/age/etc, even though all of us were getting paid the same.
- Too much favoritism. They would deliberately pull me off my assignment to load someone else's truck, because it was a girl and she couldn't load 150lb. tires, which I totally understand, but the favoritism was just too much sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management
- The pay could always be better especially when we meet or exceed requirements while we sweat and toil.
Pros
We had only 1 layoff in the last 38 years of history.
Cons
Location of the company is in Memphis.
Pros
Flexiable schedule, 401K and Pension
