I worked at FedEx full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Ability to manage your routes the way you want (with in fedex guidelines) good money as long as everything is running good ,great co workers.

    Cons

Routes are hard on trucks ,unpredictable stop counts. Need at least 3 routes to operate smoothly ,routes are costly , extreme weather conditions,if the packages make it to the terminal, they will be delivered

    Advice to Management

Offer some benefit options so contractors can afford to offer them to there employees. Become a partner instead of a dictator

I have been working at FedEx (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits, great co workers

    Cons

Too many politics, long hours and they do not care if your there for 15hours, but the job has to get done.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved with operations, its not just about the numbers

    Pros

Full Medical Benefits PPO Cigna $80/mo for family no spouse 401K 107% Employer Match I have not since worked for a company with similar benefits. Paid time off and sick days were paid to you if not used at the end of the year, they were not taken from you with out compensation. 75%+ interline discounts on flights with most airlines. Promote from within, you can take a test and attain a management position without a college degree. Because they have many locations you can arrange internally to fill positions elsewhere, easy to relocate.

    Cons

Like every work place you have to be careful of conflicting personalities. Manager spitefully mailed my final check after the check could not be cashed. I am talking about a year after I left. Still never got me payment, I have called them about it no return calls. Hard to find internal contact information.

    Advice to Management

    Be fair.

I worked at FedEx as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Stability, friendly workplace, fair compensation.

    Cons

Slow to change which may be its downfall; hopefully not. Organization silos make difficult to make things done. As in most older companies there are many employees who only want to have a job and are not really interested in making an impact. And the ones who want to make an impact are shackled.

    Advice to Management

Create an environment that empowers your "smart creatives". In the short term I was at FedEx I saw how some of your best people left out of frustration and the ones who remained I could see how their disappointment and apathy grew. The only people that I saw enjoying the company culture are the ones who like slow or no change. Some of your best people who are full of ideas on how to improve the company are constantly said No or in the best cases the positive answer comes 6 months later and only partially. FedEx culture might have been successful in a previous era but I can see things are quite different now and I know FedEx is already feeling the pressure. You have a lot of creative people with the solutions to your problems you only need to get out of their way and let them solve the problems.

    Pros

Fast paced, the work days go by very fast. Working outdoors and wearing shorts everyday, even during the winter time.

    Cons

The ops managers are never on the same page. When in doubt, listen to your direct manager. The pay scale is totally off. Chances are if you've been at the company for 5-10 yrs, you are not making much more than a brand new employee

    Advice to Management

please listen to your couriers. they drive the route and around the city everyday, they know what they are talking about.

  9. Nice

    Pros

Pretty good place to work and pretty decent benefits. Good co workers and start ya off at a decent wage.

    Cons

Management can be pretty shotty at times. Hours can also be rough. If you want good benefits you have to pay a lot more for them.

I worked at FedEx part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You work with some really great people. People are hard working, carry their load, and are generally fun to be around.

    Cons

It's hard work. If you can't take hard manual labor, it's not for you. The pay is poor and shifts are short, so it ends up being hard work for a small paycheck

    Advice to Management

Make the shifts longer and rotate people from each position, so they can work an 8 hour shift and not just load trucks the whole time.

  11. Overall Decent, if you're in need

I worked at FedEx full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Rigid corporation (could also be a negative). Experienced staff, but not a lot of them at a location. Some ability to bounce around between locations.

    Cons

Retail Orientated, tight deadlines, little reward for work. Scheduling is tough, and shifts are not able to be covered be already busy coworkers.

    Advice to Management

Continue your profit model, seems to be working well. No reason for a lowly hourly worker to be giving advice to management. Although, print is going away, so perhaps head toward shipping (which they seem to be doing).
