I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, lateral moves are possible, pension plan that few companies have, job stability, once you are a manager you are bullet proof. Equitable hiring practices. great company for ex-military people. Great brand recognition. You are responsible for creating your own work/life balance. Upper management has good vision and innovative ideas. Never a dull moment.

    Cons

Terrible managers are never held accountable. Management is overwhelmingly white males. Raises never keep up with the cost of living so negotiate high when coming on-board. No real support for innovation. Managing up is a huge burden on top of your existing work load. Being nice or political is more important than being knowledgeable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of under-performing managers. Pay attention to the advice in the employee survey. Promote some women. Memphis is not the center of the universe. Recruit more widely and engage a global, remote workforce. Live up to your effort to go green and save office space costs by letting more people work from home.

I have been working at FedEx

    Pros

You have the ability to learn multiple skills in different areas. There are a lot of perks to working for Fedex. You receive discounts from multiple stores in the city as well as online.

    Cons

working under contract can limit you from a lot of the opportunities that Fedex has to offer.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good access to resources, due to the size of the company. Positive brand image. General commitment to core values. The opportunities for community service and the support the company provides after natural disasters help to make the work meaningful.

    Cons

Career progression is political, rather than skill or merit-based. Overall too confident about its position. Bureaucracy slows decisions; Legal makes the final call, rather than providing counsel. Departure in later years from the core values - but trying to get to basics.

I have been working at FedEx part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Keeps you busy and active and part time benefits are ok. Managers can be fair depending on one you get.

    Cons

Pay isn't great and since there are so many ppl don't think you 'll stand out by breaking a sweat-they see it everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to more employee suggestions for the company. They tend to overlook a lot of good ppl/workers.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Still one of the best employers in Memphis. Pay is not the greatest. Currently have a manager that understands work/life balance. Overall glad I am working here.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement. Hiring managers do not want to recognize your skills and talents that you have successfully proven at other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not be scared someone will get your job. Surround yourself with great people. Other employers love to hire FedEx talent.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Top brand company; visible and respected executives; improved growth; mostly personable colleagues; first-name basis with most workers (with rare exception)

    Cons

work/life balance is often touch to achieve; highly political; examples of favoritism and inconsistent policies; blatant hierarchy; very little discipline/penalties for low-contributing teammates; complacency and "I'll just do enough to get by" mentality of some colleagues who realize the low-likelihood of termination

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

investigate/analyze management contributions and interaction with subordinates; ensure that inconsistent policies are ended; respect non-management employees as much as you do executives

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Local territories that results in being home nights and weekend.

    Cons

Gross over management and hand-holding. Treats seasoned sales professionals like children. Must wear a full suit and tie every day, which is over-dressing customer by about 4-to-1. Endless internal paperwork, exercises, etc. Goals are set by automation and salespeople are typically thrown into a ditch when quotas are re-set, then beaten daily to climb out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust that the salespeople you hire are professionals and GET OUT OF THEIR WAY!!
