Pros
FedEx SmartPost provides many opportunities for growth both personal and professional. Company challenges its employees and rewards them for it. Management is a firm believer in employee development and does not set one up for a failure.
Cons
Strict deadlines are in place. If you are not a self learner, it could be a tough start due to lack of standard processes and documentation.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to be employee oriented as you are now. It is much appreciated. Pass down information about upcoming projects as soon as possible so the deadlines can be met without unnecessary stress.
Pros
Its a well-known company and looks great on a resume.
Education benefits are above-average.
Cons
Expect very long hours 10, 12, 14 hour shifts with rarely two days off in a row. There is no such thing a weekend here, Sundays are mandatory with Saturdays almost as mandatory. Managers who are new get the worst hours, including overnights.
Employees are constantly turned and burned, most are unhappy with the position and are treated as slaves.
Pay is very mediocre, especially when considering the amount of hours and sacrifices expected out of you.
Advice to Senior Management
Work-life balance is important. If managers are always tired from lack of sleep, lack of days off, and bantering of the higher-ups they will leave. This is proven with the high turnover. "Bleeding Purple" shouldn't mean giving up their life for the company.
Treat dock employees more fairly, and don't treat them as slaves.
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at FedEx SmartPost is the cooperation and incentive to continue school. They work around your school schedule and reimburse tuition fees.
Cons
A down side of working with FedEx SmartPost is the changes that may occur depending on the weather if the needed parcels to process arrive from across the country.
Pros
Challenge; opportunity to see impact of your work.
Cons
Work-life balance; pay; non-equitable treating of all employees;
Advice to Senior Management
You can only treat your employees poorly for so long before they are going to want to look elsewhere.
Pros
Good Benefits, good upper leadership
Cons
Pay is below industry average
Advice to Senior Management
Should be a higher tier for each management level
Pros
Company is growing at a good rate year over year
Good insurance
Opportunity to move laterally and horizontally in company
Cons
Compensation could be better
Work conditions could improve (building has very few windows)
Advice to Senior Management
Could be more proactive in working with employees to develop career path
Pros
opportunities for advancement. tuition reimbursement
Cons
extremely low pay, communication stinks, management expects you to complete tasks without giving enough information
Advice to Senior Management
pay better.
Pros
Great advancement opportunities, senior management communication, competitive pay, work and life balance and ability to tell people that you work for a great company like FedEx.
Cons
Long work hours, dealing with employees that are always not satisfied with what they are doing, strict rules and regulations.
Advice to Senior Management
When you work for a company like FedEx SmartPost which is growing rapidly as you know, you should try to get the best out of it and advance within the company quickly.
Pros
FedEx is a good place to experience with different type of transportations. It is a name-recognized company with very reputable management training program, as well as great network of people to assist you with logistic and IT needs.
Cons
Since SP is a relatively new company, it suffers the orphan-child syndrome within the FedEx family of Express, Ground, Home Delivery, etc, etc. The junior management can be expected to put in 60+ hours of work during the regular season, but not often. However, Saturday and Sunday work are mandatory, pending the volume, thus, there are no weekend. Also, the compensation is low, average Dock Manager salary can be as low as $32,000 in some cases. And annual increase is about 3-4%, and that's with a 4 out of 5 on the review.
Advice to Senior Management
Salary pay and treatment for the junior management needs to be fixed, as the turn-around of the management is like a revolving door.
