I have been working at FedEx full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Although it's not what it used to be before the company became so enormous, the culture here is generally very good. People are friendly, teams generally work well together and upper management works hard to reinforce the importance of collaboration and team spirit. Pays very well for Memphis--- it's so cheap to live here that you can buy a house on pretty much any salaried position. World HQ is a pretty campus next to a golf course with trees, a lake, a walking trail, big cafeteria overlooking the golf course, and a fitness center. Employees receive discounts on shipping and with certain companies like Dell and AT&T. Health benefits are competitive, there's a 401K, and there is still a lump-sum pension benefit as of 2014.

    Cons

FedEx is actually not just a single company--- it's a group of operating companies that "operate independently, compete collectively". Despite efforts to overcome it, there is still a tendency toward "silos" and being territorial at all levels. Having personnel headquarters in Memphis has become an increasing liability since it is a decaying city with a lot of crime, ineffective leadership, high property and sales tax rates, terrible traffic and failing public schools. The great majority of employees are here because they're either from here or they have ties here (family nearby, etc), they are careful about where they buy a home, and they are willing to fork over the money to send their kids to private schools. This could be a good place for a young, childless person, especially someone interested in the arts, to put in two or three years but overall, this is not a particularly innovative or nimble company; there's a lot of "this is how we've always done it".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest management be increasingly aware of the fact that young, talented people with today's vital skills don't want to move to Memphis, and that's going to have to be addressed one way or another. The other big thing is that FedEx is not a place that tends to be open to innovation and new ideas; in a lot of ways it feels and operates like a company stuck in the 1990s. If you want to attract young talent, you've got to address that.

I worked at FedEx part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits and a great company that supports its part time employees. The part time employees in the Hub are the heart of the company and Fed Ex does everything they can to keep them employed.

    Cons

The greatest con to being a part time employee are the hours. The easiest job to get at Fed Ex is a material handler during the night shift. This job makes it very difficult to get college done which makes it difficult to further your career.

I worked at FedEx full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people at FedEx are amazing. The company pays very well, even its interns. My higher ups did a great job of making me feel comfortable and included. The culture is fun and vibrant. Being such a big company they get to play with the other "big boys."

    Cons

There is a lot of red tape to get through at FedEx. Everything has to go through legal and brand scrutiny. Being such a large company, your field of work is very narrow, especially in marketing as there are several teams and multiple directors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep making sure that your employees feel included and appreciated. Try to facilitate a good work/life balance for salaried employees so they do not burn out.

I have been working at FedEx full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are good, the company has a great reputation, the values are there. Currently undergoing alot of work force changes.

    Cons

The perks that were once available are not anymore. Sometimes it feels that the company is beginning to forget the individuals and it is all about the bottom line. The benenfits are declining and are not as good as they once were.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back some of the perks for the employees that have been discontinued over the last 10 years
