    Pros

Great benefits - extensive health care, dental care (for families, too), thirty days of leave every year plus paternity and maternity leave,

    Cons

Too much discretion given to leadership with not enough accountability for their use or misuse of the talent of their personnel

    Advice to Management

Give individuals with proven performance records priority when choosing assignments as a REWARD for their proven performance instead of allowing convenience to be the trump card

    Pros

Stability is great, as is the pension upon retirement. Very few places still have that retirement benefit.

    Cons

Can be difficult to move around. Often, peers leave something to be desired as the best of the best tend not to work for the government.

    Advice to Management

Increase competitiveness with private industry to encourage the best talent to come on board. Dealing with performance issues also helps one take pride in the peers with whom they work.

    Pros

    Great salary and benefits.

    Cons

Takes a act of Congress to fire slacker employees.

    Advice to Management

Take care of those that do their jobs instead of those who do not.

    Pros

There is a wide variety of cases under federal jurisdiction and the need for representation is always there. It is clearly challenging work.
It is perhaps the most rewarding work there is to do as a lawyer.

    Cons

The standard is perfection; no room for error. The stakes are enormously high and the work can be daunting. The expectations of clients and the courts are tough. There's easier ways to be a lawyer; but they aren't better because they're not challenging.
