I worked at Federal Government full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, training, growth potential for motivated and qualified employees. Complicated application process, however, worth the effort. Must be able to follow and implement complex policies and procedures.

    Cons

Office clicks can be a determent or an asset, depending who you befriend. Keep in the know but refrain from being a part of the problem. You never know who will be tour boss in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At times of downsizing or as major changes occur, it can be very. stressful for all employees. Managers and supervisors make a difference between positive or negative reactions from their teams by how they explain and implement changes.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Training, leadership, stable job, healthcare and every day challenges of military life.

    Cons

Deploying to foreign countries and extreme period of time from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've managed personnel from as little as 22 soldiers up to 1900 soldiers in peacetime and wartime.
Had the opportunity to go to school and develop professional and personal growth.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits, union support and scheduled work hours.

    Cons

Some of the management staff are in their positions because of a buddy system, and unfortunately many of them don't manage by example, nor do they learn how to manage, specially people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice of top brass walks through all the different offices and evaluate what's not going on: efficiency and fair treatment.

I have been working at Federal Government

    Pros

Great benefits, living in the government is low key.

    Cons

Regardless of which part of the government you work in, there are folks who do not work a full day.

I worked at Federal Government full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stability, benefits, challenging projects, work/life balance.

    Cons

DC commute is horrible, pay is lower than market average - much more money in being a gov contractor and many of those companies have comparable benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase COLA and step increases to offset rising cost of insurance premiums and high cost of living in areas like DC/NOVA, San Fran, etc. I wanted to remain a fed, but couldn't afford to live in NOVA. The only affordable housing for a family of 5 was 70 miles south in Fredericksburg, VA.
