Pros
If you are a solid performer, FedEx will take care of you. You will likely advance to a manager level fairly quickly. You'll get the awards, recognition, salary adjustments etc. Then....you're kind of done for a while. See Cons -
Cons
You'll sit in that manager level position for a LONG time. You'll be told you are director material, VP material etc, but those positions don't open. People stay in them (why would they leave...good pay, good benefits, not a lot of stress at that level at FedEx, and we never fire anybody). Down side is that they don't open for others who did not necessarily grow up with FedEx, so you hit a wall.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes you need to fire people who don't perform. New ideas from outside are a good thing. You do a good job, it's a challenging business and we're behind you
Pros
Employee Development
Benefits are great
Great for Minorities
Cons
Politics
Red tape to get things accomplished
Duplication of efforts between departments
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to non-management employees and their input.
Pros
FedEx treats their employees very well. I was a forklift driver and never had a complaint about hours or pay, the work was easy and I enjoyed it.
Cons
If you dont like working 3rd shift, then FedEx is not the place for you. It is a physical job and your in the weather no matter what it is.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work, I wish it had been easier for me to transfer after having to move across the country, but I just found a new job.
Pros
The pay is good for a college student
Cons
It gets very hot with no cool air and very cold with no heat
Advice to Senior Management
Labor conditions could be a lot better
Pros
The pay is fair, right smack in the middle I'd say. The benefits FedEx offers are stellar, especially for the price. A 401k PLUS a portable pension also stands out. The work can be rewarding. Good exercise, constantly moving and meeting people. There is also opportunity to generate extra revenue through sales leads.
Cons
Winter work and driving conditions can make already stressful situations worse. Can be stressful on heavy days trying to keep time commitments. The Christmas holiday all but disappears due to the excess work.
Pros
The People-Service-Profit philosophy means that people come first. That doesn't mean what it did in the old days, but it does mean that the company tries to treat people fairly (i.e. all the same) and tries to treat people well. Great benefits, outstanding management (for the most part) and excellent job security.
Cons
There are rotten apples in every barrel, and in a company this large, you can find yourself working for "the boss from hell." Since the company tries to treat all its employees fairly, bad managers sometimes last for a long time, while their management tries to bring them around.
Pros
Great benefits package, even for part time employment. Never have to work past 8 pm, usually even off by 5 for most routes.
Cons
Must start as part time, and wait for full time to open. If you are willing to move, you can transfer after 1-2 years, however, if you aren't willing to relocate, it could be 5-7 years to advance.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer a retirement buyout to older couriers. Near the age of retirement, many couriers don't have the gusto they once did. The company would advance with a slightly more youthful workforce.
Pros
Fedex offers a great benefits package, along with tuition assistance.
Cons
The working conditions are bad (weather wise), but that was already known before being hired. Hours were not ideal (splitshift)
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to look from within when giving promotions
Pros
Great benefits, 401k, medical, dental, vision, pension, stock options, tuition reimbursement, decent pay applicable to full time and part-time employees. Minimal supervision by management. Unsupervised majority of shift.
Cons
Very Physical, heavy lifting, up and down truck stairs. Couriers tend to have back and knee injuries, and excessive wear and tear on body. Management typically is gone before you return to building; thus, getting questions or problems solved requires you to come in on your time before shift. If you take a sick day, you are punished with point loss on your annual review; do not get sick.
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Travel and Shipping discounts are available to Express division employees and select family members. The company has a proven track record for being able to adapt and protect the hourly employee positions in times of global economic unceartainty.
Cons
There are no options for Medical Benifits Providers. The annual rise in medical coverage premiums surpass the annual hourly compesation increases.
Many of the employee discount programs are concentrated in and exclusive to the company home state.
Advice to Senior Management
Reintroduce the People Service Profit philosophy and make it once again the foundation of our company. Restructure the employee compensation program to reward exceptionalism in the workplace with a reasonably acheivable merit payscale.
