Great experience, but not great pay!

Former Employee - Marketing Coordinator in Aurora, IL
Former Employee - Marketing Coordinator in Aurora, IL

I worked at Feld Entertainment full-time

    Pros

The overall company atmosphere is great and I loved all of my coworkers. The actual work is fun because of the properties you work with. There's some opportunities for travel if you get to know the right people. I think it's a great place to start off and gain experience from a variety of platforms, but it is not a place to stabilize your career.

    Cons

The training period took a very long time and the workload is insane. During busy season, they expect you to work overtime on nights and weekends without extra pay. Also, once you have gone through your first year proving yourself, the raises do NOT pay off. Never expect to make a lot at this company. Also, there is not much room for movement up unless you want to try a different department which you might be held back from doing so. The management is completely unorganized and is very poor at communication. It was a great resume builder and overall good experience, but don't expect management to help or even know what to do to help with the workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Organization and overall communication needs major work. The interview process and training is a mess and needs a stable plan to help with overall success of employees. Management NEEDS to know what their employees actually do before they can help them with the workload. Most of the time, I was training the management, which is not normal.

I worked at Feld Entertainment full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

As an Event Marketing & Sales Manager, you'll have lots of responsibility, and the ability to do some creative things.

    Cons

I worked at the Boston office for about six weeks, but had begun looking for other employment after two. Absolutely no training is provided, and you are given made-up "assignments" daily with tight deadlines to test your commitment. You're given no notice that you will be traveling over the weekends. Your first year includes traveling and working at shows all weekend about 75% of the year. I had worked in the event industry for years before accepting this position and have never experienced anything like this. Management in Boston will push you to the limit to test you, and turnover is incredibly high as a result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement standard training procedures across all markets.

    Life on the road...

I worked at Feld Entertainment full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get the opportunity to travel the world for work...that is the best perk!!
You also have the opportunity to earn frequent flyer miles

    Cons

    Travel days could be long
Entertainment world is unpredictable - so show could cancel at anytime then you are not getting a paycheck.
State side does "bus and truck" so you have to like close quarter living
When traveling by air - you encounter the challenges that go with TSA and airports in general.

    Pros

The creativity and co-workers were great to work with. If you love the live entertainment field, this is a dream job.

    Cons

There was a lot of backstabbing and jockeying for positions, though. Plus the egos of the execs and some staff were out of control. Super long hours and very low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people what they deserve and put your ego on the back burner to make your employees work harder for you.

    Pros

They are in the process of making changes as they transition to their new global headquarters. This will be a benefit for those who move with the company and/or are hired into the new Florida office.

Change to grow within the company. Management tend to stay for a while, could cause a growth stunt for others.

work life balance is GREAT. This is dependent on your department lead.

    Cons

Salary is low compared to a lot of industries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Opportunity to be very hands on. Great place to gain valuable experience for careers down the road. Good benefits package and ability to travel around the world.

    Cons

Micromanagers at the top of the organization restrict employees from reaching full potential. Low pay. Very demanding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees more freedom. You'd be surprised what can be achieved if you trusted those below you.

I worked at Feld Entertainment full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, discounted/free tickets to shows, amazing co-workers, the ability to say you work for Feld. It sounds pretty impressive.

    Cons

Not much room for growth. No real employee functions (like holiday parties). Because of that, It felt very segmented... I didn't know many people outside of my department or those that worked on the same floor. Even though most of the company works from the road, corporate didn't have the ability to work from home (even in inclement weather). We never really knew what was going on with the company - We heard rumors about the move to Florida but there was never a meeting to discuss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees in the loop. Have status meetings to discuss the how the company is doing, what is new, and challenges the company faces. Have team building events and/or corporate events so that different departments get to know each other. Definitely have exit interviews to discuss why people leave in order to learn from it.

    Pros

Great opportunities with some great brands that gives you some great exposure. International organization that allows exposure to travel to see shows.

    Cons

Micromanagement from corporate level in most departments. Political agendas flourish throughout. HR is not an employees advocate when issues arise. Not a lot of trust but plenty of deceit. For a FAMILY FRIENDLY organization, Feld lacks tremendously w/ values & respect for others. Learned a lot of new words too! Ones that probably should not be repeated!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house in a lot of departments. Start fresh. Some do not to have their cheese moved therefore change will never happen. Stop bullying employees!

I worked at Feld Entertainment full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Solid first job out of college. Not many repetitive tasks. Gives you the chance to interact with many different companies and to network with their employees.

    Cons

Your experience will vary depending on your role and what office you are working out of. Also, your happiness will depend on who your manager is and how much they understand that you want a life outside of work. For a lot of the people working for Feld, selling tickets to their shows brings them ultimate satisfaction and nothing else can top it. If you want to succeed in this company, I suggest you adopt their passion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Explain the bonus structure. Compensation needs to be higher if you want entry-level employees to not leave. The amount of hours demanded and the compensation just don't balance right.
