Pros
The people are amazing. There are days when the job is AWFUL, but the people you work with are stellar beyond compare and their support keeps you going.
Cons
Its a fast paced, extremely demanding work environment that takes a lot of time....its tough to maintain work life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Need more technology and more flexible schedules
Pros
flex time, if awarded quarterly award, receive time off for free
Cons
very strict policies, a bit gossipy
Pros
Good Training program. Lots of opportunities when times are good.
Cons
Not very family friendly. Hours worked dont match up with a very good life/work balance.
Pros
Ferguson is a fair employer. Management is interested in the promotion of its employees. Our branch is like a team. Good coworkers, fun work environment & people that care about helping their clients succeed.
Cons
Sometimes hours can be long. I think if you are in a branch that has a bad manager, your experience could be negative since the manager really sets the tone for the branch.
Pros
Competitive compensation, numerous markets allow for easy relocation, good personal use programs for home use of products.
Cons
Lots of corporate red tape, difficult to act swiftly to meet customers' needs, you pretty much have to know somebody or be related to move up.
Advice to Senior Management
Lots of Boomers will be retiring shortly. Figure out how to retain your young and motivated prospects.
Pros
Stable, Routine, Flexible, co works, boss
Cons
Slow, environment, location, working hours, salary
Pros
Flex Time! Director was awesome. She was very good about making sure everyone knew what was going on with the company at all times. Well, as much as she could divulge. It is possible to start at the bottom and end up being in a leadership position.
Cons
Some of the managers have cliques and play favorites.
Pros
Great policies and procedures/guidelines to follow Top Notch training for Sales Management Trainees. Corporate training was top notch and made me want to stay with company.
Cons
The pay which was not what promised for 6 year tenured employee with the company. Long hours many responsibilities without due compensation.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are going to ask a salary employee to work long hours then please compensate them to industry standards for their time. Area Managers please go be with your associates and get feedback on how they think their general manager is doing.
Pros
good equipment and hours of work were good
Cons
To much lazyness by immediate manager. The manager would spend to much company time trying to prove he was right and rip the employee for being wrong.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire and promote experienced employees to management positions. Dont promote employees that have no clue what they are doing to manage experienced employees.
Pros
Hard working people (The ones that are left). Most of the employees are willing to help you at the drop of a hat.
Cons
With what is going on in the economy even the General Managers do not know what may be coming down. Salaried employees are used and abused for time. There are too many mandatory this and mandatory that’s leaving employees very tired and having not much family life. The hourly employees get paid for extra time so they have the salaried help put in many, many hours with no compensation. 42K divided by the hours I put in gave me an hourly rate of somewhere around $16/hour. I made that hourly rate 20 years ago.
Advice to Senior Management
Look further ahead and stop spending so much money on Golf, lunches, trips, sporting events etc. etc. etc. at the same time you are laying off so many people. The upper management that gets paid the money better be the first to work and the last to leave. In the end Ferguson or any company is not going to make or break a person. Everyone is responsible for their own success or failure. Ferguson is great for someone that has not all the self drive they would need to succeed otherwise meaning that those people that do not mind sitting in a cubical for 30 years or lead by a leash and would never acquire other talents anyways.
