Pros
hmmmm - the best reason to work here is that you get daily coffee and free t-shirts on race day and sometimes BBQ if you can get out the door
Cons
low pay - the check seems ok butwhen you didvide it by the hours it is less per hour than a fast food managers income.
do nothing management - they meet, act like things are changing, start new initiatives, but its always the same ol every day - onemanager has not really done anything since i have been here - hes a nice guy, but really?
Advice to Senior Management
please leave or actually pay attention to those below you - we should not have to do this for 12.00dollars an hour
Pros
Discounts short commute Ferguson Center discounts
Cons
Dysfunctional IT organization. Cumbersome, adversarial.
Advice to Senior Management
Inject some of the core competencies of the company like logistics, planning and execution into the IT organisation. Promote within IT based on competence rather than longevity.
Pros
Very matriarchal environment, family sensitive and progressive management strategies are used at the mid management level. Work is abundant and days go by quickly as this production oriented, fast paced environment services approximately 1300 branches and a number of vendors that do business with those branches.
Cons
Hard work at this level is somewhat under-appreciated. Well meaning management effort does make attempts to increase moral, however the incentives are quiet elementary (perhaps due to budget constraint) and fall short of their intent in the long term.
Pros
They have a pretty good training programbut once that is over you have to bend over backwards for very little recognition. The pay starts off well but unless you get comission and are an awesome sales person the pay seriously flatlines.
Cons
Work to live ratio is a joke 10-11 hours is a MINIMUM day. I work 12 to 14 for nearly a year during my 5 year tenure. My family life was a joke, with the commute I left before my wife woke up and got home betweent 7 and 8 pm. Finally had to leave.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs a complete overhaul along with some of the culture. Forcing people to work 12 hours or more with no extra money is just stupid.
Pros
good pay, good beneifits, some great "workers" to work with
Cons
they dont care about you or families, worked my butt off for 6 years, all my evaluations were 4 & 5"s out of possible 5 was on salary and put in between 10 - 18 a day with no compensation or thank you,,, waited til end of day and in 3 mins, says your position has been eliminated " good -bye" due to reduction in force, nevermind what you do for the company it comes down to how much you make. not what you do to earn what you make. they just dont care what happens to you or your family, its all about the mighty $$$$. they let the hard working, honest employees go, and keep the ones that dont cost them much or are in the inner circle
Advice to Senior Management
need to take care the people that work hard for you and give you their all, not throw them and their families into poverty
Pros
learned about plumbing and how to handle stress and the typeof business i do not want to work in. i had a nice cubicle with very nice view of a wall that I was blessed to look at for 10 hours every day.
Cons
Nepotism, Have to be in old boy club, have to drink, no family/work balance unless your family works at location. Generally, the cutomsers are not very nice and really donot care about you. You have to be a kiss butt and give them your whole life. do not ask for a raise - it will not happen. smaller suppliers pay better.
Advice to Senior Management
move so some smart up and comers can take your place. the old boy club needs to be disbanded and replaced.
Pros
Was a fun place to work... once, but new higher ups have taken the company in the wrong direction unfortunately
Cons
Ferguson was once a company that cared about its people and about its customers. This has changed: they care about money.
Advice to Senior Management
There were times when better people ran this company, but they were layed off! If this company wants respect, they need new higher ups.
Pros
big company and they have enough money to bully the market. You may still have a job, but no life
Cons
They eek every penny out of every thing they touch. you'll work overtime and not get paid for it,
Advice to Senior Management
comparing your sales numbers to some other poor soul who punches out and continues to work off the clock so he can keep his numbers up shamefull
Pros
Uhhh, the pay was decent. The showroom environment was nice and very clean.
Cons
You work your butt off and then have to work off the clock in order to get anything done b/c they lay so many people off that it's impossible to achieve anything during business hours. If you work over time you get in trouble but if don't get your job done you get in trouble. You get paid decent but you have to work 50hr weeks and Saturday's.
Advice to Senior Management
If you have an employee that calls in sick ALL the time and everybody else has to cover that person just replace them. Dont put others slack on the good employees.
Pros
Good benefits, strong company with a lot of financial backing
Cons
To many layers of upper management, problem solving and decision making was hard because had to be approved by to many layers. A lot of dissention between the layers of management.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to let go of some of the layers. Focus on what makes the company work rather than have upper managment go back and forth on power trips.
