    Pros

Great training program for new managers. At least back in 2001, and I don't know why they would have gotten away from it since then.

    Cons

A lot of management positions were eliminated when the company started centralizing a lot of the business. This provided a challenge to see future growth opportunities.
If you are in operations, you will go home smelling like ethylmercaptain frequently. You will get so use to the smell that you will not even realize that you have that odor with you.

    Pros

Plenty of overtime in the winter. Steady work. In my area they don't lay off driver's seasonally like lots of other propane companies do. Room for growth if you are dedicated and patient.

    Cons

Your work schedule can vary as fat as days and hours of duty. On call rotation is tough but manageable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to the drivers more.

    Pros

Corporate office has a fun health and family oriented culture, relaxed dress code, great benefits. Flexibility to work different hours and work from home on occasion. This is the most technologically advanced propane company in the world. Work-life balance is excellent.

    Cons

There is a bit of silo mentality that exists between corporate departments. Bonuses are dependent upon total company performance which hinges on cold winters and/or low product cost, warm winters with high product cost have resulted in layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work.

    Pros

Pay was good, fellow employees and drivers were nice - benefits were good if you've been there long enough, employee ESOP

    Cons

Management changed things every other week or so - mostly stemming from corporate - you have to roll with the punches or shut up if you don't like it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try putting yourself in our shoes, deal with the customers one on one - have answers available or at least try to get one if you don't have it, Everyone should work as a team, that was not done at times.

Can't, they were fair to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Great pay, great commision structure, DOS's truly care about their sales team professionally and personally, good benys...all the tools and support you need to succeed

    Cons

Very frustrating division between sales and operations. Total lack of respect shown to sales team by the whole operations team. I've heard very disturbing comments by GM's and Op's managers about other Reps outside my territory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Track Ops perfomance regarding new account setups and suport of sales efforts. They watch sales numbers closely enough but dont always know the whole picture.

Ferrellgas Sales vs Operations impacts bottom line

    Pros

Ferrellgas provides a strong team environment, quality training and a good propane solution for commerical and residential accounts. The base pay and varied commission payout are pretty strong. The benefits are great and the sales team is strong. Serivce team is strong.

    Cons

There is a huge gap between sales and operations, which will impact an account manager's income due to lack of installation support, poor internal communication, lack of response time from operations management and complicated reporting requirements in order to get some commissions paid out. Management over operations is lacking in leadership and execution. Competitive pricing is a concern, as account managers are fighting with lower margins and customers or prospects are typically getting charged a higher-than-average cost for product. Pricing teams and operations managers often change prices even after signed agreements are received.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a better way to track poor performing operations mgt team members, as this greatly impacts getting sold accounts installed and account managers getting paid correctly and on time. Customers need to be treated better with regard to consistent and fair pricing - stop changing their price just to make your profit margins.

Current Employee - Delivery Manager in Olympia, WA

    Pros

Seasonal business allows for ease of taking time off during the summer months. Employer is helpful in providing equipment to make work somewhat easier, if a little more binding (laptop/cell phone). Good benefits and employee stock ownership plan are a plus.

    Cons

Winter heating season is very hectic, which can cause frustrations and often the weather dictates how busy it is. Snow/Ice and cold conditions make for the most work, and also hampers deliveries, which is frustrating. Customers can be anxious and sometimes rude during these periods of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the most part, I think senior management is doing a good job. Communication is not horrible, but could be better in relaying things that are going on in the company. Some mid-level managers aren't very people friendly and those areas could probably do better if those in charge were replaced.
