Class outfit and people--strong executive team--- last few years have been a struggle though

Banking Officer, Assistant Vice President, Senior Manager (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsStrong executive leadership, smart and intelligent focus on strategic growth and long term value for shareholders. Friendly atmosphere, organized and neat offices, employee cafeteria a plus, gym, and support services (in house printing services, top of the line copiers, computers, software support top notch) . Departments differ based on leadership in charge. Bright spots exist although personal training seems to be mainly lip service.

ConsIT is in charge, dislocated philosophy of placing the cart before the horse (IT cut in house dedicated training staff although they build dedicated training classrooms for the Bank). Office culture does not focus on people. Overly outward focused on banking customers/regulators. Large degree of company politics, Annual performance goals are dis-aligned to calendar and approved in June and finalized for the year in October (???)

Advice to Senior ManagementIntegrate 365 degree feedback, review statistics on turnover for each department, address culture issues, bring back dedicated IT training for supported software such as MS Office, maintain survey consistency (any formal survey where staff is asked to participate) across a predefined timeframe to allow for valued feedback (feedback is a gift, act on it), value and reward training,

    Pretty Good

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThoroughly enjoyed my few years there. Unfortunately with the economic melt-down my position went down as well. Nothing anyone could do.

ConsThere is no such word as confidence when speaking to anyone in HR. Unfortunately I witnessed sabotage first hand within a department. That could have been the results of frightened humans. Who knows.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to build the morale within the Bank. Happy employees build successful companies.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCommute, Bank holidays that is about it

ConsFear based management who promotes and focus on themselves, leadership is lacking, no growth opportunities no career path, most will do the same job forever, poor raises, too much favoritism and plan on 45+ workweek including weekends

Advice to Senior ManagementThey don't listen anyway, so what is the point.

Offers security and good work/life balance

    Collateral Review Coordinator (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsThe Fhlb Atlanta offers a lot of great perks, such as educational reimbursement, a pension plan, 401k matching program, 2 weeks of sick pay, and 3 weeks of vacation that increases by an additional work after your fourth year. The atmosphere fosters a good sense professionalism and management is very understanding of personal/family obligations outside of work. It's a low stress, great working environment. There's also a sense of comradery between the people that work at the Bank. If you are in a place in your life where you just want to be comfortable with a job for several years and fly under the radar this is a great place for you. It's also a great place to start and gain experience. You will learn a lot from the people you work with because the Fhlb is staffed by a group with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

ConsCommunication from management has improved, however it still needs improvement. Departments work in silos and there is little to no training provided. The bank does offer training and educational reimbursement, however you will not find job specific training, and you will not know about a change until you discover a problem that occurs from the change. Chances are that you will not get a promotion, and there are little opportunities for growth. If you are good at what you do, it's very likely that management will do what they can to keep you in that role or area that you are in year to year. If you are looking for accolades or constructive criticism on your performance, this is also not the place for you. If you still have some fire left in you to make your way up the corporate latter you might want to get a little experience from here, but look elsewhere if you want something more than stability.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication, and offer more opportunities for personal growth of employees, and give credit and constructive criticism when and where it's due.

Great benefits, competitve salary, poor communication

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsThe Bank offers a great benefits package, along with a competitive salary. Employees do have the ability to further thier education, although the bank does not provide any real training in regards to the specific job or work done at the Bank (it is generally a "learn as you go" or "trial by fire" training methodology). Many of the departments I worked with were very helpful in mentoring in areas where my department interracted with thiers.

ConsCommunication is not very good from Management. New managers at the bank lack the appropriate skill set or mentoring to be effective managers, which results in staff leaving. Staff tend to be afraid to raise issues to management our of fear which prevents issues from being addressed in some areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementNew Managers: There should be a training process (enforced by HR) for new managers, both those hired from outside who lack a demonstrated track record of managing a staff and for staff promoted to thier first management position.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat work life balance. I started as a fresher and the peers are very helpful and I learnt a lot when I was there for close to 3 years

ConsA little difficult if you want to move to a different team or pursue something different within the bank.
