Pros
Benefits are excellent and very helpful.
Cons
Very corporate and decisions are not timely.
Advice to Senior Management
Timely decision on company direction desperately needed.
Pros
Pretty solid benefits, SOME people I worked with were really fun to be with, great 401k options especially with the matching and the ability for a Roth 401k
Cons
POLITICS. I am aware this happens everywhere but the amount of sucking up and brown nosing at this place is absolutely unbelievable. The best way I can describe it is as a shark tank.
Certain people would stop at nothing to stab you in the back. If you ever did anything that could remotely be a mistake you would get a email from whoever found it and they would copy every manager that they could possibly think of. This was not just in my area, it happened in every area I had ever been in contact with during my time.
Managers did not care about their employees (except for their "favorites") and never provided any training that could help you to move up through the company.
Advancing your career is basically impossible. If you are content making a very low salary for an extended period of time while being stuck in an entry level job into your 30's (yes I saw a lot of this) then Fidelity is for you.
Raises were an absolute joke. I know the economy is not in the best shape but it is insulting to get a "raise" that might increase my paycheck by a quarter. Not to mention all employees received the same "pay increase" regardless of talent.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut the politics. If you want to look good then you need to worry about putting out a good product and that is done by helping your quality employees achieve more instead of driving them away. Numbers won't look good when all of your talent has quit.
Recognize the talent you have and reward it. Take some initiative to push those people to higher positions instead of trying to trap them in entry level roles.
When people stab others in the back, do not reward them. To promote a team atmosphere and a quality work environment you shouldn't have to walk on eggshells because you are scared someone is always looking to find a mistake you made and run to tell a manager.
Offer training to help employees advance in their careers. Take the high performers and give them the opportunity to learn more so they can be a better resource for Fidelity.
Pros
Very good benefits. 100% match of 401k up to 7%. Decent annual bonus opportunity and about 10% salary profit sharing. No vision coverage however. What they don't pay you in salary they try to make up for it with benefits. They fail.
Cons
Absolutely no career or personal advancement. This company is content keeping employees in an entry-level position with entry-level pay for 6+ years. They do not recognize talent, hard work, or those deserving of a promotion. Very beaurocratic. Very strict "quotas" on how many people get raises and promotions each year. As a result, unfortunately, the rewards go to the brownnosers and suck ups.
Advice to Senior Management
Please start recognizing your high performing employees. Offer more clear career paths and opportunities within the company.
Pros
- Good people to connect with
Cons
- Sometimes meets the cliche of a financial company
- Tries to say it wants to push forward but seems to stay status quo
Advice to Senior Management
Stop reorganizing.
Pros
Great benefits. Good pay. Hours are not excessively long.
Cons
Riddled with inefficient processes and bureaucracy. When cost savings are required, they layoff instead of looking to save by fixing their antiquated methods. Much bias exists with lots of favortism toward those in Boston vs. other locations.
Advice to Senior Management
Choose a strategy and stick with it. The company changes directions too often.
Pros
good pay and good technical challange
Cons
highly risky still very old technolgy
Advice to Senior Management
focus on the work than the profit margin
Pros
flexible work environment, interesting industry, steady growth site.
Cons
hmm, can't wear jeans everyday
Advice to Senior Management
n/a
Pros
Great benefits
Excellent 401k plan
Great Co-workers
Team Work
Cons
No opportunity if not with the inside gang
A lot of politics
Poor Pay
Place inexerperinced managers into positions to develop others
Advice to Senior Management
So many changes make staff feel their is no direction within the company. I believe internal controls are set up to make employees look bad, not develop employees. Senior management should create a company culture that rewards hard work, not your friends.
Pros
looks great on Resume but frameworks used very locked up not enough room for creativity. received great training though on spring framework.
Cons
downside ... again too much security on every level - not enough opportunity to create and implement something new. too many forms to fill to do your job
Advice to Senior Management
sometimes great people let go when there is not enough project work at the same time very expensive consultants being brought in
Pros
Good industry recognition, get to work on complex enterprise level applications
Cons
Pay is average, have to work with a lot of groups, process is slow frustrating
Advice to Senior Management
Make processes more agile
