    Great company to work for

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsCollaborative, challenging and cohesive environment. Good work/life balance. Very team oriented. Very sociable. Chance of a great career within the industry.

ConsNot many apart from salaries but they have been addressing this for the last 2 years. Like all Companies they have negative points but the positives far outweigh the negatives. They do need to work globally rather than silo'd country by country,, especially for shared service functions..

    Ever increasing workload

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFidessa has a general atmosphere of helping others and a friendly culture. There is a good range of training available - if you have the time.

ConsThe workload has progressively increased as management try and get more out the workforce. This has started to impact the company culture and reduce job satisfaction.

Comfortable place to work but needs a shake up

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) London, England (UK)

Pros- Nice working environment, generally 9 to 5.30 in the London office
    - Friendly and professional colleagues
    - Opportunities to move abroad if you're vocal enough
    - Good, low-stress intro to finance wihtout some of the typical drawback (long hours, high pressure...)

Cons- Not much opportunity for real advancement in the company - staff turnover at lower to mid levels is huge, non-existent at higher management levels
    - Senior management are invisible and inaudible except for the yearly speech about "tough market conditions" affecting pay rises...
    - Falling behind technologically : all products are still built on core components that were originally conceived in the 90s. Admittedly it still works... but the chance to work in tcl is not going to attract the best talent.

Advice to Senior Management- Find a way to motivate talented younger emplyees to stay. For example, devolve some decision-making / responsibilities (not just the boring bits!).
    - Freezing salaries and cancelling bonuses to prop up dividend payments will hurt you in the long term.

Good enough for 2-3 year stint

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Woking, England (UK)

ProsProfessional and friendly working environment. Very client focussed. Good technical training especially for graduates.

ConsCareer progression is limited so if you are looking to move up after 2 years the opportunities are minimal. Salaries are below market averages and recognition of top performers is generally quite poor - always seems to go blame 'poor economic climate' which gets tiresome especially when the company is doing fine on paper.

Enjoyable and interesting company but career progression is limited.

Business Analyst (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsGood training programme. Friendly atmosphere. Opportunities to travel in Europe for client business. Promote career progression by providing office moves across the globe. One of the few jobs in the city that provides a 9-5 lifestyle/balance.

ConsNon competitive salary once in the company. Little impact or involvement on the bigger picture. Limited career progression if not willing to move offices.

Loved it, but had to move on.

Analyst (Former Employee) Woking, England (UK)

ProsPeople - the most intelligent, helpful and dedicated staff across all departments.
Work-life balance is respected, if that's what you want / need.
Constant influx of new ideas with the grad developers means progress does not stagnate. The low pay actually benefits the company here - the experienced guys leave and new blood comes in. Keeps it all fresh.
Benefits are in line with City firms.

    ConsPay isn't great.
    Woking is pretty grim.
Sales sell vapourware which puts unnecessary pressure on technical teams.

Advice to Senior ManagementGenerally keep going as you are. you have am industry wide reputation for doing things properly.

Start your career here, leave after 2 or 3 years

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Woking, England (UK)

Pros1) Fidessa is a good company to start your career. You get a good exposure to the financial sector and knowledge that will help you find a better job later on.

    2) Benefits are quite good except from salary and pension scheme.

    3) Fidessa pays overtime but only because they can charge their clients for it.

Cons1) Fidessa operates a pool of low paid employees, where everybody is expendable. This is why they never make any counter offers when somebody leaves, except in very very few cases.

    2) Excellence in work is never rewarded. No matter how well you do your job, you are going to get the same "pre-fixed" salary increase. This is very demotivating once you find out.

    3) It is not worth staying in the company after 2-3 years as you soon find out that your market value is at least 30-50% more than Fidessa offers.

    4) Senior management show no consideration for their employees and they all seem to have a hands-off approach when it comes to implementation. It is amazing that although Fidessa is a software company, its senior managers either do not have a technical background or have not touched code for decades.

    5) The pension scheme Fidessa has is very poor. You have to pay in 3% for the company to contribute a maximum of 3%. This is in contrast to banks that pay in 10-15% and you do not have to pay any contribution at all.

    6) The company boasts about the job security it offers. This means that you will be paid significantly below your market rate, but you will never be fired by Fidessa. This model benefits low quality employees that hang on to Fidessa knowing that they will never be fired. It does not benefit bright individuals who want to get rewared for their good quality work. This is why the latter normally leave after 2-3 years.

    7) The CEO has made some very big mistakes in choosing the business model for the company, in buying LatentZero and in deciding the direction that the company will take. Fidessa was too late to implement a dividends platform and has not implemented any Fixed Income or FX platforms as far as I know.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward excellence and get rid of people that are not contributing to revenue growth. Try to motivate people more and keep talented people instead of letting them go.

    Consultancy Positions for Buy Side

Consultant (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsJobs are client facing, but beware exactly what client facing can mean, especially if you are part of a large onsite team.

ConsOnce you are out of the office, going back can feel strange, hot desking was a new experience, understandable, but would have been better to hot desk with other consultants rather than with the people who stay in the office.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnsure more integration of HR with manager.

ProsThe external training provided is amazing, and the chilled out atmosphere.

ConsNo progression. Take forever to deal with your own queries. No wonder why people leave after working there for a year.
