Good opportunities with somewhat oppressive management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
San Diego, CA

I worked at Filmetrics as an intern for more than a year

ProsAt Filmetrics you will have: very friendly and helpful coworkers; A nice, well-lit, and modern office in San Diego; and some opportunities to try out different roles within the company. The product is solid with room for innovation.

ConsPoor communication from upper management and an oppressive atmosphere within the office. Good for some short term experience, but not a great long term career opportunity.

Great learning experience

Applications Engineer (Former Employee)
Fairport, NY

I worked at Filmetrics full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat people to work with and a nice working environment. Everyone (at all positions and locations) was knowledgeable at their jobs and willing to help with questions and advice. Chance to travel to different trade shows every year.

ConsNot a lot of time off. There is only a limited amount of time off you can earn and this time has to be shared between vacation, sick time off, and personal time off. Benefits are offered, but at a rate that is high at the high deductible level. No retirement benefits available.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffering more time off or the chance to accumulate more time off would be nice. Retirement benefits would be great.

Challenging Hi-Tech Career

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Filmetrics full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFilmetrics is a dynamic company with many avenues to grow and develop skills, participate in the evolution of a successful company, develop high-tech instruments serving many industries and earn great money. Employees are intelligent, diverse, driven and work very well together. Problem solving is a must at all levels. With offices scattered about the world, along with the combination of quality products and excellent customer service, the company’s growth is steady year in and year out. The industries using Filmetrics’ products and the consistent effort to be ahead of the technology curve makes for a very fun and challenging work day. Filmetrics is very fair, competitive and takes care of customers. The HQ office, located a few miles from beautiful Del Mar, has a manufacturing and an engineering building, is very open and bright, has a comfortable lounge, a game room and caters to collaboration. A consistent effort to become more “green” sets an example of environmental responsibility for others to follow. Stock options provide good incentive to work diligent. Healthcare is also offered. The technical tools to excel are at ones disposal. Overall, the day goes by fast, the money is good and communication is open an honest.

ConsPTO (Paid Time Off) could be improved by rewarding workers more time off based on how long employed with the company. Team building company events including family and/or friends could be more frequent and further build morale and camaraderie.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great coworkers & extremely difficult management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
San Diego, CA

I worked at Filmetrics

ProsThe salary and benefits are solid, not amazing, but solid. All employees are intelligent, hard working, get along well, and treat each other with respect. The technology is somewhat dated but is still solid with good products that are easy to use. Loyal customers and stable financials.

ConsLeadership is non existent. Upper management (the owner/boss) is extremely intelligent, but also extremely difficult to work with. Upper management does not treat long nor short term employees no matter how loyal, with any respect. Expect to be belittled on a weekly basis with little to no recognition of any positive efforts. The boss has a deep seated mis-trust in all employees no matter how loyal they may be. There are countless unexplainable and unreasonable policies that have little to do with productivity but more with the boss's own personal comfort. Many large business decisions and expenses are also based not around the good of the company but around the boss's own personal comfort and ego. It does not seem that any employees who have stayed at the company for a length of time have had any significant career opportunities. Collaboration/communication between boss and employees is very poor. Any communication received is nearly impossible to decipher. Follow ups on communication usually result in little to no clarification. During the interview process, bonus's are made out to be phenomenal, when in fact they are quite poor considering the financial success of the company and extravagant and un-needed business purchases the boss makes.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe boss of the company is a good entrepreneur and did an excellent job navigating Filmetrics. Now that the company is established the boss's poor leadership and managerial qualities are stunting the potential for the company to grow and becomes more successful. A CEO with good leadership capabilities should be brought in to lead and grow the company.

good for a couple years but not a career

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Filmetrics

Prosgood money, benefits and good people to work with. everyone works hard and is competant and gets along with everyone else.

Consthe boss makes it hard to do your job when he isn't clear in his emails or phone calls about what he actually wants. he doesn't reward loyalty or let people do what they're good at. lots of policies about stuff that doesn't matter and he spends money on beautifying the office with useless things.
