  1. BP&S/IT due for another disaster with DC as CIO

    Pros

Good and hard working employees for the most part, standard industry benefits and great business model for growth

    Cons

Many changes within BP&S team in the past few months without leadership or strategic approach; Hiring and keeping expensive contractors instead of keeping knowledgable employees. The CIO acts as a bully and there is no oversight on his costly decisions and the chaos he has created. He was given the ultimate authority by the past leadership team and since they have left Finning, the new leadership team has not assessed CIO’s negative impact and outcomes so far.
Moral is low and BP&S employees seem lost while the new CIO brings in more of his people on high paid roles and contracts.

    Advice to Management

CEO and the Board to review CIO’s undertakings, actions and decisions so far and don’t limit themselves with his big presentations with no tangible outcome. They also need to limit the number of contractors and use full time employees to keep the knowledge in house and reduce the cost

Rather than have leaders with the qualifications, Finning remains a company led by "Good 'ole boys"

    Pros

Good benefits and a wonderful group of people working at the lower end of the totem pole.

    Cons

Managers overseeing business functions in which they have no expertise.
Internal IT is basically outsourced, and that source will only troubleshoot and provide assistance with Internal applications. Not those that go outside the Finning demark/Firewall, and there are a number of systems that are outside the firewall...good luck on help and support. Many systems are behind the times, and those implemented do not meet the business processes of the organization...I will not go into the what really occurred at the Executive level...

    Advice to Management

Rather than setting your work friends up for failure, advance those individuals who were brought into the company because of their skills and expertise.

    Pros

Noting to add in here. Would rather mention pros at caterpillar website reviews.
Finning Canada has nothing to offer.

    Cons

Awful management!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They won't tell you what is expected of you. No perks, less salary, just work like an ass with head down to keep your job, no proper performance mgt, no one will tell you where something will come from that will go in your file.
You will never be rewarded for a job well done, if you do a good job, your boss will see you as a threat and will try to put you down cause every boss that works with this company are egoistic.
Worse managed companies cause there is not a single competent manager.
Andy got a big job to do here, saving Canadian operations. Good luck!!

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who knows how to work and have some education. Who can lead, who cares for the organization, please select managers based on competences not by references.
Company culture will bring this company down for sure. No wander CAT is not sure about Finning Canada. They will have look for another dealer pretty soon.

    Pros

    Big Bucks. lots of OT.
Dream job turned out to be a worst nightmare

    Cons

Little in the way of management skills Revolving door for most, home for the coo coo birds. Too many undertrained managers, little real direction and policies. Favouritism rampant, and long established employees can do whatever they want. Impossible Lawson program, and stupid safety rules (hard hat and stripes while at a computer station?). Mental health of employees is questionable, and not even considered by most managers.

    Advice to Management

    Wake up please.
You are making money by accident, and could be MUCH more profitable if you asked for and took advice from the floor people.

    Excellent opportunity to advance
Overtime for those who want it

    Cons

Normal work politics and such. Some Supervisors were difficult to deal with and seemed to not understand operations

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, was nice to see upper management of the branch on the floor and accesible

    Pros

It is a place you can build a career. People and management care about each other. There are problems like all places of work but it is a good blend of small company feel with large corporation security.

    Cons

Not the most progressive place to work. It can been viewed as a bit resistant to change. This is more related to the industry than the company itself.
