Overall great company, but local Las Vegas leadership is very weak.

I have been working at Firestone Building Products Company

    Pros

Laid back environment very little pressure. Most workers get along well. Annual bonus for hourly employees. Good pay starting at $17 per hour.

    Cons

Tons of opportunity for growth but not an understanding by supervisors and leads of how to get there. Favoritism by lead and supervisor and are the root of daily gossip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership in Las Vegas needs formal training on how to lead.

I have been working at Firestone Building Products Company

    Pros

Clean work atmosphere, room to shift jobs if you prove yourself with effort and vision.

    Cons

Upper managements vision in marketing, sales is a bad joke. It feels like a boat with lots of oarsmen but no captain. All we do is fast follow the competition in new marketing endeavors and price compete.
This company, owned by Bridgestone (Japan) in all of its wisdom decided to do 3 major things at the same time. SAP on-boarding, Consolidation of jobs in a wholesale move to Nashville, TN and institute a "premier place to work" program (which is corporate smoke screen for employee elimination / RIF program disguised as something that makes you feel like your voice is being heard etc).
This all leads to an atmosphere of apprehension, sterile interactivity, doubt and confusion despite the CEO's cheery diatribes from his golden throne in Nashville where these changes affect him in minimal ways at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to hire well and be willing to PAY for true, visionary talent.
Do more for your people in the trenches enduring your organizational change movement.
Regain morale and loyalty by dishing more of it out.
Work should be a pleasurable experience and dare I say fun. Try to make that place we spend all these hours away from our families and loved ones feel worthwhile.

    Pros

Limitless opportunity for the "go-getter". Big plans, big changes coming in the future.

    Cons

Traditional Senior Management. Some vested employees are not as passionate about growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to new ways of conducting business.

It is a decent company. A little slow with customer service.

I have been working at Firestone Building Products Company

    Pros

Good benefits, corporate structure perks, large name

    Cons

Low salary compared to competition, under staffed, ridiculous amounts of responsibility placed on under paid staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the average salary if expecting employees to stay.

    Pros

Always opportunities to learn about roofing. The people are friendly. It's been a growing company, so there are often new opportunities for job growth and/or position changes. Hardly ever have to work overtime.

    Cons

Management does not communicate, nor do they set clear expectations or have a strong onboarding program. Many people in charge have never been on a roof, much less have any experience with our customers. There are large silo's between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get yourself and us out into the field. Be clear about company and department goals.

    Pros

The people who work there are the best asset.

    Cons

Crazy production schedule. Need additional resources to improve plant equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to add more people in the upper manager positions. Too thin to be effective.

    Pros

You can make some good money if you are able to handle the crazy schedule. 40 hours, if you're lucky in the winter and 60 - 80 in the summer. Maintenance is more..new management is clueless about what is needed.

    Cons

The hours and you don't get Saturdays off in the summer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better fair schedule and conditions like it was.

    Cons
