    Pros

Great relationships with customers, small branches, close staff, great place to start a banking career.

    Cons

Trying to join the big bank sales culture. The customer base is not large enough for that in Florida. Customer demographics in area want to get away from these practices.

    Advice to Management

Understand that the reason our customers came to our bank in the first place is that they are tired of being hounded to open accounts every time they walk into the bank. They want a good relationship with their banker without the pressure of all the sales. Now, every time they have any contact with the bank they're being sold something. Until rates come up, at the very least, we can't thrive in this big bank culture using big bank techniques as such a small institution. Go back to selling great customer service.

    Pros

Community minded, customer focused. Was able to Manage my Financial Center like it was my business.

    Cons

Pay scale was very much below standards in the area. Insurance was so expensive also not in line with other Banks, especially those with families. Very unaffordable.

    Advice to Management

    Relook at salaries.

    Pros

Busey leadership is strong, and they are always on the leading edge of new developments. The people that work there are great and there is always a positive atmosphere. Busey is involved in the various communities where their offices are located and many of their employees volunteer in community activities.

    Cons

Supervisors are not always alert to underlying causes of job performance. I think this is true of many companies.

    Pros

Mid-managers are nice and friendly. Pay is average. There is a room for upward movement. Plus, they offer a lot of training to make sure that you can deliver what Busey asks you to do.

    Cons

Working could be intimidating. Mid management, unlike mid-managers, focus on being very aggressive to their customer, which brings some of pressure to their employees.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. Tellers were constantly asked to do more than what was necessary.

    Pros

The company like to lend based on character rather than only credit metrics which is good for marginal credits. They truly value relationships.

    Cons

If you do not come from the area there are no real opportunities for growth. You will not be trusted.

    Advice to Management

Keep an open mind an try not to use nepotism for making decisions. There are other ways and other people who can help. There are other ways to grow the business not just cost cutting.

    Pros

Hires from within, good incentives for reaching sales goals, upper management is very involved with employees, good benefits, a comfortable work environment.

    Cons

The pay is low in comparison to other banks.

    Advice to Management

Consider an annual bonus for ALL employees regardless of status in b5 and raising pay to match other banking institutions in our area.

    Pros

It's a good place to start, you'll learn a lot, but you do have to put your best out there to be recognized. If you do just as much as it is expected, probably you'll be just ok. I suggest to do beyond what is expected for your position and establish a good reputation within your department and outside of it.
It matters a lot who is your direct supervisor. You need to have an open communication relationship with your manager. He or she is the one that can help you grow and they will help you if you show them you want and you can do all it's requested and more.

    Cons

Low pay for new starting employees. However, you can grow with time.

    Advice to Management

Choose a strategy and follow through. Strategy changes can confuse people and make them anxious.
