    Pros

Decent pay. Locations closed on Saturdays.

    Cons

It seems like First Citizens Bank has little regard for how it treats its employees, specifically the lower positions. If you are a FSR or teller, you will have very little say in what goes on in the company. While you are required to actively seek out business through cold calls, don't expect any type of commission or credit when the loan officer gets the glory. The kind of person who can succeed at First Citizens Bank is somebody who doesn't mind being a brown noser that keeps their opinions to themselves. The company has interesting ideas on what makes for great management material. Example: An overbearing micro-manager that implements ridiculous rules regarding dress code, attitude, even dictates what food is allowed to remain in the break room. If that is the kind of person First Citizens Bank feels is "management material", it speaks very loudly of the organization. While working at First Citizens Bank, I honestly felt like it was more of a regime than an organization. A lot of behind closed doors gossip, lies, and poor management. If you are working at First Citizens with the hope of moving up the ladder, don't expect much. While they may humor you with the obligatory interview, they will most likely have somebody else lined up for the position. Other than that, the benefits were severely lacking. The HR department does not seem to be very knowledgeable, even about basic subjects such as maternity leave. The health insurance offered is pretty mediocre as well.

Re-evaluate who you give power to.

    Pros

At the internal audit department, they really pay attention to provide staff with adequate professional development. From sending us to professional association meetings to giving the staff a wide variety of assignment to help search what area most interest/suit us.

    Cons

The software system is a bit out dated, so it can be hard to trouble shoot as a new comer.

    Pros

The bank has some great locations in NC and SC, they are a family owned that prides itself on their people, there are many educational oppurtinities with the bank to advance yourself, they also have in house training which is nice for a bank this size. Most areas do not work on Saturdays and close at 530 on Fridays, Thursday being the late day most work, alot better than Fridays which alot of banks are going to. Bank is big on cross training employees to do several jobs that can work for you or against you depending on what area your in.

    Cons

Medium sized bank works for and against you in several ways by limiting position opennings and your abiltiy to moved into them vs the bank bringing in someone from a competitor, which happens... Human Resources will promise things that city exe will not follow, thus be sure to get anything in writing or at least have some sort of management acknowledge comments made by human resources. Being located mostly in the southeast, if you plan to move elsewhere, transferring will not be an option, once you reach branch management, you've topped out as business bankers, etc do not leave these positions very often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Human resources does not always let seior management know what is going on with employees and deals they have worked on with employees. Senoir management needs to do thier job and then infor HR what needs to be done, instead of the other way around. Area Exe's are too busy dealing with their bottom line to worry about whats going on in the branches, I do not know if there is anyway to make the system any better, but the communication lines do need to be openned up more than they currently are.

    Pros

The pay is very decent, and the work is pretty easy.

    Cons

No challenges. When you do a good job, no one acknowledges your work. Extremely boring as you sit at a desk waiting for people to walk into the bank all day. It's quite obvious that Senior Management is most concerned with their paychecks over your career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your employees - really. Don't just pretend you do.
