I used to be excited to go to work.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsThe PTO policy is generous and some of the benefits are good. Good coworkers, good learning opportunity for new fields of endeavor.

ConsPromotional opportunities are there for those with friends in high places. Most positions are decided before the interview is even held. Having an advanced degree or certification means nothing, and I don't think anyone looks at resumes when people put in for promotions. It's all "who do you know". HR is no help; there used to be a great bunch of employees in HR; now it's who do you know versus what do you know. I now have the same job at a different organization, and make a great deal more. The salaries are NOT competitive. You can work there as a contractor for twice to three times as much, but if you are hired full-time, you will lose the extra and be put to the regular company salary. New management has come in and eliminated experienced workers, or made conditions so bad the experienced staff leaves. Management has "pets" and forget the rest.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would advise upper or senior level management to become more involved with what is happening in the departments. There are departments that are run so poorly that most of the experienced staff has left the company, and the remainder are not familiar enough with the work to come in and take over with no training. Also, have senior management review the real competitive salaries - the ones at FCSO are NOT competitive, based on the overall market for most positions. If senior level management does not find a way to improve salary, work hours and promotions, this company will continue to lose good workers.

    When quality doesn't matter

Auditor II (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsA good way to gain experience in healthcare auditing. It's a job.

ConsFirst Coast Service Options (FCSO) only cares about volume, not quality. The main goal is to get as many audits done as possible without regard of quality. Employees are underpaid well below market and are overworked. New employees are thrown in the deep end without formal training. Numerous employees went on stress leave while I was employed. Many were unhappy and morale was constantly down. Hard work is not recognized. If you are a high producer you will only be expected to produce more and your annual increase if any will be next to nothing.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your employees. Offer competitive salaries and provide opportunity for advancement. "The right things the right way" with the workload your employees receive. It forces them to give up quality and in turn executing a fair audit and well thought out audit.

    Medical Review Nurse

Medical Review Nurse (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

    ProsGood learning experience. Flexible schedule.

ConsBetter orientation process. Need more available resources. High turn-over rate

Advice to Senior ManagementBecause the work environment was set up in a cubicle style fashion, a lot of personal information was over heard, that didn't need to be shared/heard by others. Better training process to on-board Nurses. Some of the delivery messages could have been more tactful.

    Stress

    PSA (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsThe pay is great, and if you love to abuse fmla this for you. They offer a great work out program by making you park 2 miles away. Idiot managers who get master's degrees from University of Phoenix create policies that actually cause less work to get done, which is good because laziness is rewarded.

ConsEver wake up in tears because you dread going into work, enough said,

    Advice to Senior ManagementRetire.

Unstable Company Please Dont try it

In Charge Auditor (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsGreat Coworkers and managers. You can have the medicare experience with them and then go out to the healthcare industry.

ConsAs a subsidiary of BCBSFL FCSO should have a inexpensive Health Insurance for employees and family members. Long hours of work without compensation.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo down to the workers and try to see what they are doing for the company.

Horrible management, bullying, lack of resources, run like a labor camp

Review Nurse (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

Prosable to telework, hard working, supportive co-workers

ConsNever worked a 40 hour work week, always 50-60+ hours and it was never enough. Did not get paid 1 cent over 40 hours since exempt. The production expectations went up so high that no proper review could be done. Management constantly bullies employees to work more free overtime for the good of the company. No work/family balance. Cannot use PTO, if call out sick made to look like you let the team down. The place is run like a Labor Camp. Why hire more resources when they can get 6 days a week and unrealistic production out of the current staff? Don't ask too many questions or try to do things the right way, just produce high numbers, that is all that is important. High overturn/burn out rates.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to listen to your employees. I was told they were too swamped, didn't care how I did my job, or what it took to make a decision. Very unprofessional, bragging about playing on Farmville 2 too much while you worked the weekend. Management knew less than the employees about the workload. High turn over, 2 directors, 2 managers, 3 team leads in a short period.

Lots of chances for advancement, but you may have to play some games to get what you want.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

Pros-OK salary, annual bonus in the 3% range (10% for management, unknown % for upper management)
-Opportunities to advance or transfer to other areas
-Good benefits, although they get substantially worse each year.
    -Good office location.
-Pro Diversity workplace, if that is your thing.
-Management actively pursuing new areas of work (i.e. government contracts)
-Let you easily balance worklife and personal life (though this can depend on your individual manager)

Cons-Increasing workload and decreasing manpower to do it. This is more the nature of Government Contracts, and not FCSO.
-Poor implementation of new systems to expedite workload. (some systems actually increase the time it takes to complete your job functions)
-VERY, VERY political place to work. This can affect your bonus / promotion chances. Lot of favoritism in this good ole boy (and girl) company.
-Have to be near management level to be reimbursed for MBA level education. (that makes no sense to me)
-People without the proper education level doing jobs they have no business doing.
-HR policies make it near impossible to remove dead weight employees and employees who abuse STD/FMLA.
-HR and benefit people are jokes, good luck dealing with them.

The Place is a Hot Mess

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

    ProsIt's a job
Some really nice people work there
There's a program where you can learn things at lunch that has interesting topics like gardening and nutrition

ConsPeople are offered jobs and then called and told those jobs won't be filled
Benefits suck with a high deductible health plan that's very expensive for family coverage
Some management got to where they are because of their friendships with higher ups
To get promoted to management now you have to have a college degree, no matter how long you have been there or if you got good reviews
Government contracting has too many silly rules you have to follow
Some departments have been working 10 hours of overtime each week for almost a year

Advice to Senior ManagementMake management responsible for the mistakes they make.
Fire most of the people in the personnel department
Get a better medical insurance plan
Get managers who can manage the workload so their won't be so much overtime

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
