It can be a good company, depending on your manager

I worked at First Financial Bancorp full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a very friendly company, and the work is not too bad. But two of my three managers meant well and were good to work for. I still keep in touch with a former co-worker. The office culture is not very flexible - there are strict rules about not hanging things up in your cube, and the meetings can be dominated by people who are not related to the work at hand.

    Cons

It is a large, complicated bureaucracy, and the projects and organization act accordingly. I started when it was much smaller - they bough five or ten other banks in five years, probably tripling in branches and deposits. Plus, a new regime made it more streamlined but less flexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no training - they are a bank and promote their loan and deposit programs only. There are no promotions unless you have the right friends. The employee discounts can be good, plus free coffee. Mostly pay attention to your people, and have a better review process - it is not good to only talk about your role and performance only once a year.

    Cons

The branch president has harassed employees to vote for government issues the way he wants you to vote,

    Pros

First Financial really cares about their clients and staff member.

    Cons

Some methods to promote "brand awareness" can be ridiculous, such as going door to door (if you are in to that sort of thing then this would be perfect for you).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to imagine what success looks like and focus on what you have been successful doing to this point.

    Pros

I love my co-workers. Some clients are great

    Cons

bad hours, have to work Saturdays even though I was told I wouldn't need to. very low pay for work done. all work is about is sales, sales and more sales. have to cold call clients at least 3 hours every day. Goals for sales have gone up so high they are nearly impossible to obtain

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your employees. give them raises if they work hard for it.

Stay away from mortgage originator jobs.

I have been working at First Financial Bancorp full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They have a couple unique mortgage programs. Co-workers at the branches are pretty nice people.

    Cons

Good luck trying to get a loan closed. Processing is the tail wagging the dog here. If processing doesn't like your file, it costs you $300 from your commission, your file gets suspended and back to the end of the line. Mortgage originators, other than the couple with an assistant, have to fight to get any deals closed. Turnover is probably over 50% among the originators annually. Most of the branches are in low to moderate income areas so you aren't going to get decent walk in or internal referral deals. The good branches are given to favorites and those folks aren't going anywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can't fix your fulfillment issues by beating up your sales force.

I worked at First Financial Bancorp full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Small enough to feel friendly; some opportunities to advance, specifically in sales roles; values and culture well-defined (and a few of the key leaders promote them); incentive programs for individual and corporate performance

    Cons

Frequent reorganization; little interaction with senior management; poor communication; customer service varies; have let some experienced and capable people go to cut costs while letting less productive people remain

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let things work before changing them. Reward and appreciate talent at all levels.
