I worked at First Gulf Bank part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    conveniently located
    Good pay package(basic +incentives)
Amazing people to work with, very friendly and approachable.
    Work is appreciated
Management flexible [work-life balance], if your problems are genuine.

    Cons

limited career growth .no surprises as there is lots of competition. Basic pay is low and incentives come as an aggregate rather than on a monthly basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest more training opportunities be introduced for the staff , both at the sales level as well as the customer service team.

I worked at First Gulf Bank full-time

    Pros

Good pay, especially after it was reviewed, getting good pay but doing non challenging role. As it was owned by royal family, bank sometimes spend on ridiculous things

    Cons

    1) Politics
Too much internal fights at the head office. Indian ratio in head office got so high, till they finally realize it is a national security issue, and find ways to remove Indians

    2) Support for Overseas Branch
Only one overseas branch in Singapore. But it seems that there are people in head office that do not wants the overseas branch to succeed, creating countless problems

    3) Racial Discrimination
At the only overseas branch, a certain race is being tolerated for sloppy work, and the certain race gets promoted and commended even though others do better. A good example is such that a certain race gets promoted every year, even though the staff smokes in toilet and have known extramarital affairs.

    4) Micromanagement
Head of the branch will sit at the lobby, trying to catch latecomers for work

    5) Risk Exposure
Bank's exposure to certain countries is too highly concentrated. In good times, the profitability is high. It has not experienced bad times yet, as overseas branch us a new setup.

    6) High Turnover of Staff
There must be a reason why the pay is good, but management staff come and go, especially the compliance department

    7) KYC procedures
Even though deals might be suspected and reported by staff to have Iranian links, but head of branch did not take decisions to stop transactions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overhaul management team. Do not sacrifice banking integrity for profitability.

I have been working at First Gulf Bank full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work in pure professional environment gives us pride to be a part of FGB family. Friendly atmosphere, bosses are approachable. Suggestions are welcomed & implemented.

    Cons

Promotions mostly on the basis of age & seniority rather than performance. Always a fear of job security. Consistent performance is the key to sustain with FGB. Few poor leadership across business are hindrances to accept change. Talent management is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain good talents with all means coz they not only take away customers but also the good idea which may harmful for business.
