I worked at First Hawaiian Bank full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Amazing benefits (401K, Health Insurance, Retirement, Dental, Education reimbursement, etc...), On-The-Job Training and Certifications, clear management tiers, and easy horizontal mobility.

    Cons

Old school management styles, severe office politics, and low pay scales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership is key to a great working environment. To stifle a plan of leadership based on a single aggressive employee only proves past ineffectiveness. The culture of "Kuleana"is a subversive mix of intra-personal-relationships only for use outside of work... while encouraging an Adam Smith-esque, "work as hard/accurate/fast as you can because your neighbor is working harder than you" rhetoric.

It is effective... until employees become hostile towards each other rather than reverent of the group's success.

I worked at First Hawaiian Bank

    Pros

Bank hours, you finish daily by 4:00 pm Fridays is 6:30 and you are off on weekends. Paid Holidays, Vacay, PTO & Sick leave.

    Cons

They make you donate every month just so they can have there branch look good compared to others. You MUST sell sell sell if not your managers don't like you as much as the others. They favor employees too much

I have been working at First Hawaiian Bank (more than 3 years)

    Pros

First Hawaiian Bank really does take care of their employees. Their benefits package is great, don't have to pay much out of pocker for medical/dental/vision. The teller position is ideal for a student. They are quite flexible with my schedule. If anything, it seemed as if they needed me more than I needed them.

    Cons

Pay is quite low compared to industry. Pay raise is even lower, less than one percent, annually. Career progression is slow. The honest truth about FHB is it's all about who you know. I've seen a fair amount of favoritism within the company. FHB is behind on technology, not very innovative.

I worked at First Hawaiian Bank full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Everyone is treated like family. Employees are rarely ever fired, so it is a very stable company to work for as far as job security. Has one of the best benefit packages.

    Cons

The technology used is very old and outdated. Pay is quite low compared to other companies. Promotions are very slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find some ways to modernize the technology. Promote motivated individuals faster with higher pay.
