I have been working at First Niagara Financial full-time

    Pros

Excellent people no mater what branch you're at. Very competitive pay and a much more professional and knowledgable staff compared to other banks.

    Cons

Lofty sales goals, systems and software are a step behind the competitor.

    Advice to Management

Technology upgrade, more recognition and comfort for sales role positions. Hard to perform when you are worried about job security.

    Pros

Good company. Nice City. Much of the growth that the company has seen in past 5 years is core growth and will be profitable if not yet.

    Cons

Still struggling to manage fast expansion. Buffalo fails to draw enough talent to support the banks that are headquartered there. Too much reliance on external resources.

    Advice to Management

Stick to what they have been doing and work to grow the core business. Reduce expenses through shuttering as many duplicate offices as possible and strengthen the most viable.

I worked at First Niagara Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing company to for. Provided great opportunities and covered tuition costs through Center for Financial Training. Gives back to local communities as well!

    Cons

Sometimes the branches get to busy for the number of tellers on the line. Inconsistencies between branches and rules could become stressful.

    Advice to Management

Have your computer system use photos- so when someone opens an account their picture will come up- tellers don't have to continually ask for IDA and customers don't have to get mad when they are asked eveyday.

I worked at First Niagara Financial as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Intelligent and understanding management, positive work environment, great internship program, and solid work-life balance. Even as an intern, I was treated with respect and given a relevant and highly visible workload. Getting time off was usually easy (as an intern), and the work / life balance was good.

    Cons

Given the company size, it's sometimes difficult to get much variety in the workload compared to say, a smaller consulting company.

    Advice to Management

Great management. Understanding, and pushes employees to excel and grow. Keep it up!

I worked at First Niagara Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get lots of free stuff. Blankets, key chains, pens, etc.

    Cons

You have more than one job to do and getting referrals means everything in the company. They have also been laying off people randomly and demoting some as well.

    Advice to Management

    Lower the teller referrals

    Cons

Working in a cube, you aren't able to interact as much with fellow coworkers.
