Working for First student is not a good place to work. They definitely need a management overhaul and tune up.

School Bus Driver (Former Employee) Springfield, IL

ProsThe is nothing really positive to say
about management. The bus drivers and monitors really work hard, but the support received is terrible.

ConsLousy pay, 20hr work week for many student drivers expensive medical insurance for lousy coverage lack of communication between management to staff. Management get paid in a different week from staff.

Good pay for job that doesn't require a formal education.

School Bus Driver (Current Employee) Plainfield, IL

ProsPaid to train and get license. Union bases have good wages, have some paid holidays and retention bonus, etc. Most of work follows school calendar, so no nights, weekends or summers unless you want. Kids are fun to work with.

ConsNot much summer work if you need it.

    Manage Fleet maintenance and repair

    Management (Former Employee) Richmond, CA

ProsSince only 2 models of vehicles were in the fleet, everyone was able to get really good at repairing them,

ConsThis location was a prime example of managers reaching their level of incompetency and staying there. Very frustrating place to work. Many employees spent more efforts in union activities in order to reduce production than in the actual job that was paying them.
    Salary is below average.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop promoting drivers to management unless they have the qualifications or, at least provide good training in managerial skills before placing them in management. Understand that there are huge regional differences and adapt management techniques to or concentrate on regions that are under-performing.

They are pretty good to work for but could use improvements.

School Bus Driver (Current Employee) Sandwich, NH

ProsThey provided all the training necessary to pass the CDL exam and even further to help keep the license and make sure everything is on track.

ConsThey say paid training, but it is at minimum wage and anytime you do anything for the company they pay less than "driver pay".

Advice to Senior ManagementPay a set hourly wage for all drivers and especially when they are attending in service training or shuttling buses.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
