Reservation (Former Employee)
Long Island City, NY

I worked at First Transit full-time for more than 3 years

ProsYou can get a variety of experience.

ConsMost companies prefer to promote from within rather than go outside to fill positions. However when First Transit promote a position from within it's always by seniority, and not by hard work.

Advice to Senior ManagementThank you

An overall great experience

Transit Mechanic (Current Employee)
Santa Maria, CA

I have been working at First Transit full-time for more than a year

Pros-Great coworkers( not really related to work, but makes job go by quicker)
-Some training
-Employee perks are rare, but occasionally do happen
-Pay was fairly competitive

Cons-Management is often out of touch
-The office I worked out was very thrifty
-Was injured on the job, and management was very quick to write me up for my injury. Just offended me due to insensitivity on their part.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry not to be so quick to chastise employees ( not related to my experience). I saw a lot of good employees let go, or written up due to minor offenses that were often entirely explainable. Try to invest in your bottom line too.

Working with First Transit

Paratransit Bus Operator (Former Employee)
Philadelphia, PA

I worked at First Transit full-time for more than a year

Proscan work if hours are available

ConsNot getting paid for time you are not picking up and dropping off. Which is called downtime, if the individuals at Septa do not provide work, the driver should not be penalized.

I worked at First Transit full-time for more than 5 years

Prosenjoy meeting and working with clients. providing safety and security in a timely manner. great training, the best is provided to us.

Conssometimes we don't get lunch breaks

Advice to Senior Managementproviding more accuracy in schedules so the drivers can get lunch breaks, although it may say lunch break on your schedule, its not always possible to take. we drive many miles per day and have alot of clients. sometimes 250 miles per day. always a good idea to pack a lunch, water, juice, etc. as the days can be long. I miss this place and my passengers too.

Overall a good company to work for but it's only PART-TIME

Bus Driver (Current Employee)
Naperville, IL

I have been working at First Transit part-time for more than 3 years

Pros1. The being able to give back to the community by caring for those most vulnerable, ie. children. 2. Getting to work with Linda O. I never walk away without out learning something. I like that a lot. 3. And looking out of the front window as you're driving and seeing the sunrise as you're heading to your High school pickup-beautiful!

ConsNot enough hours to pay the bills, COLD winter mornings!

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to keep your best drivers long term make sure that they can afford to keep work for you. I love working for you BUT I need more hours so that I can feed my family.
