I worked at FirstEnergy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay. Fairly Laid back environment. Hours were up to you within reason other than the dreadful help desk.

    Cons

Conservative culture, occasional night shift. Help desk.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the desktop support analysts. They are dealing more directly with the IS and issues more than any other team.

    Pros

FirstEnergy allows a good balance between work / home when needed. Pay is competitive. There is a lot of freedom to do what you can, get the job donie the best way which makes it more enjoyable.

    Cons

It is a very lareg company which sometimes makes you feel like a 'number' instead of a person. Sometimes I question the opportunity to advance,

    Advice to Management

Try to come 'down to the working persons level' once in a while. understand day to day jobs and what we actualy do...te 'physical labor' end of the company. Not bean counters

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Listen to employee's concerns and seriously consider our needs/wants Need future vision of where Network Architecture will be in 5/10yrs Praise employee development and reward innovation Promotions should be merit based

    Pros

Competitive pay and good benefits, employees tend to me moved around the company when the want to be, and there are always opportunities to move up in a large company like FirstEnergy.

    Cons

As with all companies, selection for some positions in the company is not necessarily based on the quality of work one does.

Former Employee - Pricing in Akron, OH
    Approves of CEO

    Pros

This is a very interesting business in which to gain experience, since everybody uses electricity. I enjoyed the quantitative nature of the work, and the opportunities to gain more in-depth knowledge about topics like energy generation and distribution, as well as the nature of new deregulation policies in Ohio.

    Cons

This is a conservative company. This means the overall pace of work is rather slow, and there's a bit of lack of motivation coming down from management. Again, the company is regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio-meaning the bottom line is assured by political deals with PUCO, and not as much by efficiency and scale.

    Advice to Management

    Embrace deregulation.
