    Location

    ConsNo respect for employees
    Environment is in total chaos
    Contractors are taking over

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter communication to the IT staff. There jobs and future are unknown. Senior management is completly removed from the day to day issues and concerns facing the employees.

Overall have enjoyed working for first love the driving side of it

    Bus Driver (Current Employee)
    Southampton, England (UK)

ProsSalary is good and great colleagues.

The training programme very thorough for all bus drivers and safety is a big area concentrated on. After the initial driver training and you have passed your exams and driving test more training is underway with your learning of the routes and use of the ticket machines with a buddy driver who sees you through this period until they feel you are ready to go solo.

ConsWorking and dealing with the public is always difficult in any situation and this is no different. Having said that most of the public you deal with are very polite courteous and appreciative.
Some of the driving stints are now longer and breaks seem to get shorter,

    Demoralising

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits like free travel on buses and discounted travel on trains.

ConsWorking too many consecutive days on rota system.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat all employees the same.

    Mediocre

    Business Analyst (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsIf you're looking for a steady job, then this is the place.
    Work/life balance no doubt.

ConsIf you're looking to build a career, please go elsewhere.
Zero training budget. And unsurprisingly, never received any training.
The compensation is a joke compared to what the frontline employees are getting. As a corporate employee, there's no travel benefit, no defined pension, no health plan or even a health check. Starting pay is ok but please expect below RPI raises every year for the years to come.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the employees feel valued, not used. Show some clarity in terms of career prospects. Invest some money in training.
I really don't think I'm asking for a lot here.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Awesome company to work for

    Revenue Control Officer (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsA lot of development opportunities within the company. Great travel benefits. Secondment opportunities.

ConsTraining opportunities are narrow. You have to change departments and apply for other jobs within the company to develop career wise. Otherwise, it is difficult to develop by staying within the same department.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore frequent face to face meeting with the front line staff to get actual feedback about the business and to know about improvement opportunities.

Its a good easy job that pays well if you can cope with the times.

    Bus Driver (Former Employee)
    Sheffield, England (UK)

ProsGood pay, good colleagues, travel benefits and improvement in buses in recent years

    ConsHours but cant be helped.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo advice after hearing improvements have been made! Pleased for those still there and certainly heading the right way after going backwards a few years ago.

    worst bus

    Bus Driver (Former Employee)
    Glasgow, Scotland (UK)

Prosgood rate of pay thats because you have to be bribed to work there

    Consfar too many to list

Advice to Senior Managementtake notice of your employees
    control room staff very unhelpful
never saw the DOM in the year I was at Larkfield. Cumbernauld was much more friendly and loved working there, would still be there if it wasn't closed after being lied to in a meeting a few months before, was promised that they would not close depot but did. when handed notice into dom, he didn't even acknowledge receipt. took wage drop to get out!!

    No desire to change

    Human Resources (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsIf they were really interested in change then the opportunity to over achieve is high, in fact it would be easy to show how to do things better

ConsThe most common phrase we hear is "that's not how we do things here" or "that's not how we've always done things here"
FirstGroup is a very small organisation that runs a disorganized conglomerate of acquired and badly assimilated companies with limited or now management ability or appetite for change

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement really need to think again and listen to specialists that know what they are doing and are willing and trying to help, rather than stifle them when they wish to innovate and help grow the business and because they know more than you
If you dont know what good looks like or if you dont what to hear what it is, then you are damaging the company.
You need to lead your staff and the company rather than stop them from leading you
