If you enjoy financial analysis, it will be hard for others to understand that you actually like your job.

    Analyst (Current Employee)

Pros-Great people to work with, who are social, willing to explain things you may not understand, and are confident enough in their opinions and colleagues to defend their point, but also see the point of view of others.
-The educational and continued-learning benefits are substantially greater than other companies I have worked for.
-Very accommodating between work and personal life, as I've come to understand it and have come to infer from others. There will be times when you have to work your butt off although it never feels forced, and other times when coworkers will be asking "Why haven't you taken a vacation yet?"

ConsCompared to the workflow in other industries, there aren't a whole lot of downsides, but there are definitely busier portions of the year. Depending on which industry you cover, expect to be a little overwhelmed during year end and quarterly financial releases.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou're doing a great job, and it's refreshing to work in a setting that bolsters both career and personal growth. Not many places nowadays that instill loyalty to your company, but Fitch is one of them.

    Overhaul/New Approach Needed

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe benefits are not too bad

ConsThe technological infrastructure is one of the worst I've seen for a company of this size. Lack of direction by senior management. Lots of ideas float around but the focus is ONLY on the present instead of envisioning the effect of decisions made now on the long term future. On the technology side instead of revamping the systems in place completely, the action taken is mostly a "band-aid" approach.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of having the same people come up with the same ideas that clearly does not work, try to have a more open approach to ideas made by others even if they are not on the senior level. Thinking outside of the box is what gets a company ahead. Look back in history and you will see that innovative out of the box thinking is what catapulted some companies to surpass their competitors.

Very good work-life balance and interesting job with responsibility

    Associate Director (Current Employee)

ProsExcellent work-life balance, very interesting jobs, good access to top management at clients, very good internal and external training support, high degree of responsibility even at junior level, independence, virtually no mobbing, very nice and well educated colleagues, good compensation compared to a corporate banking job, 20% travel, very international team atmosphere, junior to mid level staff get significantly higher degree of responsibility than at Moody's or S&P but significantly lower compensation

ConsIncompetence of some senior managers in acting as responsible staff managers, no real team work, no significant benefits except pension contributions, long work hour in some departments (e.g. FI, SF), annual bonus on low side, performance reward not in line with effort undertaken

If you aren't in the right clique you are bound to be mistreated and underpaid

    Senior Director (Former Employee)

ProsFitch has a great work life balance. I didn't know anyone there who worked more than the required 35 hours, and many of the analyst work substantially less if they are in the "In Crowd." The health insurance is fabulous and is on a sliding scale and they do a decent match on the 401K.

ConsManagement is awful, no direction is provided and promotions are based on popularity not abilities, so they tend to promote people way past their level of incompetentness. Management will NEVER let you know the criteria you need to meet to get your bonus and you will likely find yourself shaking your head at review time. After the fact they will say "well your numbers were low in this area so your bonus is going to be low" but that number most likely is something you have no control over. Then when you have a really good number in that area, they change the measurement to something else. So you are always chasing your tail but never know by what you will be judged at year's end. Then people who rarely even bothered to work will get bigger bonuses simply because they are more politically connected. Even though I loved my actual job, most of the people there were just downright unpleasant to work with. There are a few good people who take pride in their work and are respectful to others, but they are hard to find.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop promoting based upon brown nosing and promote based upon proven ability to LEAD.

    Bored!!!

Stagnent Place to Work (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsFitch is great place to work as people are very nice, good work life balance and its a big brand name within the Financial Services industry.

ConsBut thats as far as my compliments goes, this place lacks serious leadership and the development team does not follow any framework or methodology hence they either over estimate or ridiculously underestimate work and consequently do not deliver things in time!! You would expect a far more efficient outlook from an organisation such as Fitch!!

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the market, adopt best practices and implement agile

Senior Management does a terrible job of managing the rank and file. Very little direction is given for job performance

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsDecent vacation policy for management

ConsSenior management does not effectively communicate strategic goals of the company. There is no guidance for improving perfomance should you get off course. For a company that communicates to the outside world about "TRANSPARENCY" they do a terrible job internally managing their people.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide clear goals and objectives for employees. Articulate corporate strategy to everyone.

Fitch is a fairly mediocre company that mostly does not attract top people.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe benefits were very good, and the hours were very reasonable. There are some industry leaders who are well respected in their fields.

ConsMost people at Fitch are very mediocre -- with some exceptions, the talented people were miserable and left as soon as they could. It is not an innovative place to work at all, and managers and executives often seemed clueless and incompetent.
