I have been working at Fitch Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere. It's your 9 to 5 job. You can pretend you are busy and keep pushing deadlines. Since the senior boss is usually busy planning vacations and eat outs, you can very easily “pretend” to be busy too. Benefits are good. This is only because Fitch Solutions is a part of the Fitch Group

    Cons

Dogmatic to the point that “my way or the highway” rules. Old school in every possible way. You will survive if you have a family that you want to go back to, do a few meetings in a day and treat your time at work as a job – not a career. For all those who wanted a career, the “my way or the highway” leaders ensured that the enthusiastic employees left. Any good suggestions that are made are received with a “It is above your pay grade” comment. Come here if you can leave your desire to excel at home.

Zero growth. Really, how can any of the “pros” take you anywhere. No clue where the company is headed and what’s needed to achieve the goals. Well on second thoughts, there are no goals.
In the last one year, in product development alone, over 8 people left the company and none were hired. Not to mention the sales organization where it’s hard to keep a count of the colleagues that have exited.
No new products for the sales to sell. Sales has to push really hard not only to sell the research and content but also educate the market that there exists a company called Fitch Solutions. Despite these flaws the product team wants the organization to believe that Fitch is better than Bloomberg.
HR is present only during the hiring process or during exit interviews. If HR were a more active organization, it could have easily prevented these reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It’s a shame that the senior management could never see the flaws. If one group has so many people leaving, the flaw cannot be in all the people that have resigned. There is a flaw in the leadership – the person so called “heading” the group
And yes, please stop saying we are better than Bloomberg. Prove it

    I worked at Fitch Solutions

    Pros

Reasonable hours, good vacation time, quality research product (albeit with coverage shortcomings)

    Cons

Senior leaders do not understand the business and consistently rely on consultants to make up for their glaring shortcomings. Consultants similarly do not understand the business.
Failure to develop new products the market desires leaves sales with nothing new to sell.
Value and prefer external people over internal. Never promote from within.
Employees are therefore very unhappy. Many seeking to leave.
Parent company values analysts and believes sales/relationship managers are interchangeable parts.
Consistently set unattainable (double digit) growth goals (again, with no new products) that demoralize each team member.
Cap earnings: If a sales person has a strong year, FitchSolutions will ramp up goal, take away client responsibilities and cut payouts to assure it does not pay this "offending" successful salesman "too much" again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house and bring in new management that understands the business.

Started well but soon went downhill. It's good for interns or very senior directors

I worked at Fitch Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not much happening. The management really doesn't know what they want. Most of the time goes in making changes to the same document again and again until you realize it's the back to square one.

    Cons

Atmosphere is horrible, no one seems happy. Showing that you are happy and having fun is a big no-no.
No career advancement or opportunities at all.
There's a hypocritical culture. Some long time members don't want any body to advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a career path. Everyone is doing the same work.

I worked at Fitch Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Knew their strengths and played to them
    - European working style - easy hours and good vacation

    Cons

    - Their two strengths, structured finance and bank ratings, helped cause the 2008 financial crisis and their revenue base was probably hard hit by it.
    - Not as serious about the non rating products and services yet had a global team around it
    - Low pay compared to the other Ratings agencies
    - Limited career opportunities for advancement and development

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Get a game plan together and define career paths for employees
