    Pros

Five Star is doing amazing things right now to build up its identity as the premier senior living company. They started a customer service training program this year to train all team members, they are revamping all of the community activities/programming, and hired a celebrity chef to host competitions and building events. Everything can't be done instantly but they are focusing on the important things and really starting to differentiate themselves. I love it here!

    Cons

I really can't think of any serious issues. There are always minor hitches but for the most part the company is full of caring and dedicated people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistency in senior mgmt positions is key - keep it up!

    Pros

Friendly co-workers and management staff. Home like atmosphere for the residents.

    Cons

When short staffed the job duties can be overwhelming

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that enough team members are scheduled for the job requirements.

  6.

The corporation portion - Senior management has no regard for its employees. Management within each facility is great!

    Pros

Teamwork within the facility and employees who truly care for their residents and want to make a difference in their care.

    Cons

Pay and benefits could be much better. Also would be nice if corporate could pay attention to the building and see that things are needed and take care of the issues

I worked at Five Star Senior Living part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The workers worked hard for poverty pay.

    Cons

Worked as a dining room staff, got fed (essentially leftovers at the end of the night) was free, became paid for deducted from paychecks. You pay your employees $9 and hour and make them pay for already cooked food you intend throwing out, as a company you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Management didn't have access to funds to do their job therefore everyone couldn't effectively do their job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have a back-bone.

    Pros

Residents are the only good thing about the place!

    Cons

company will get rid of you in a second to get a cheaper employee. Uses a 2005 pay scale even in 2014! Criminal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    stop thinking about yourselves!

I have been working at Five Star Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I'm having trouble finding any pros...

    Cons

"Where to start, extreme workload (both physical and clerical), unrecognized employees who really care and excel. Very small increase in pay each year does not keep up with cost of living increase. Profit driven rather than care driven, too bad, they throw away a lot of good employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A complete change in vision, let the care of our much deserving (and do they ever pay for the care they do receive) elderly residents guide your company's vision, and your almighty profit will surely follow.
